Gold Cup 2019 Football – Saturday 22nd June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The second set of fixtures in the Gold Cup come to an end on Saturday when the tournament heads up to Cleveland in Ohio for the middle matches in Group D of the tournament. This is the group where the hosts sit so the evening will get plenty of attention as a result of that.

USA will get the chance to gain revenge for being put out of the World Cup by Trinidad and Tobago when they meet in the second match but prior to that it will be Panama looking to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.

Guyana vs Panama (22.30)

The first match of the evening gives Panama the chance to near enough secure their passage into the knockout stages when they take on a Guyana side who looked a little out of their depth in their first game and who will be out to show they are better than that in this one.

I didn’t think Panama were fantastic in their first match but these days teams aim to peak as an event goes on so I would be disappointed if there is not a fair bit more to come from them over the remainder of this group stage. Cuba have to avoid defeat to have any chance of making it into the knockout stage but given their poor goal difference they probably need to win the game and win it fairly well. Panama are being asked to cover a 2.5 goal handicap here which I think they’ll do but when they only need to win I’m loathe to back it.

USA vs Trinidad & Tobago (01.00)

The more appealing match of the night is the revenge mission for the USA when they have the roles reversed as they take on Trinidad & Tobago. Two years ago it was the USA who had to win to progress in a tournament and this time it is the men from the Caribbean who can’t afford to lose.

USA went into the tournament under something of a cloud with their form horrible and their style not a whole lot better but they esed the mounting pressure on them when they wiped the floor with Guyana in the first game. They weren’t up against much there though and this will be more of a test of where they are at. Trinidad and Tobago were competitive against Panama in their opening match but were not able to come out of it with anything which will disappoint them.

I’m not convinced with this USA side and I think they’ll have a lot more trouble winning this match than they did the one against Guyana and the fact that Trinidad and Tobago get a two goal start here I think I’ll side with the Soca Warriors. They have more defensive resoluteness to them and should be able to trouble USA the other way. That handicap looks a little too high to me.
