We begin a run of five successive nights with Major League Soccer action on Wednesday evening when four matches in the competition take place out in America, with three important points up for grabs in each of them.
Both Conferences will be under the microscope over the course of the evening where two of the matches are live on TV in the UK on Free Sports and Premier Sports for those who subscribe to the latter. The usual streams will be showing them all too.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
Atlanta United FC v Houston Dynamo (00.00)
New England Revolution v Vancouver Whitecaps FC (00.00)
Chicago Fire v Columbus Crew SC (01.00)
Toronto FC v New York Red Bulls (01.00)
Preview
The two live matches see recent winners of the MLS Cup in action where the current champions Atlanta United are on show when they go up against a Houston Dynamo side who are bang out of form right now. The other live game could be quite entertaining as former champions Toronto FC host New York Red Bulls in what could be a challenging contest for both sides and have a big impact on the Eastern Conference.
Away from the spotlight of the TV cameras three sides languishing in the wrong half of the Eastern Conference table will be looking for maximum points. There aren’t many six pointers in the MLS but the game between the Chicago Fire and Columbus Crew could be one. New England Revolution could sneak into the play-off spots in the Eastern Conference if they can come out on top against Vancouver Whitecaps.
Betting
There is just the one bet which interests me on Wednesday, which is actually quite cool given that it is the start of five straight nights of MLS action. I was tempted by New England Revolution but their cap is a bit on the large side now if I’m honest. The overs in Toronto were another one that I considered but there wasn’t as much juice as I would have liked in that either so I’m left with one.
Atlanta United are suddenly being involved in some heavy scoring matches. Seven of their last eight games have had three or more in them with the one that didn’t featuring a Chicago Fire side who have a terrible conversion rate. Houston Dynamo matches are known for being high scoring because they are leaky in defence but trouble sides with their pace in attack. Given Atlanta are new to the league, these two have only met twice in MLS but the home side have scored four goals on each occasion. I don’t know whether Atlanta will score that many here but between the two they should combine nicely to cover a 3 goal line.
