We have a full midweek round of matches in the Major League Soccer season this week as the hectic schedule after the midseason break continues at quite some pace. You get the feeling this is going to be a tough set of games for players and punters alike with some teams playing for a fourth time in 10 days.
We have one match on TV to enjoy on Wednesday evening which involves the leaders in the Eastern Conference. Once again the remainder of the matches will be live on the various streaming options available to us.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
New York City FC v Seattle Sounders FC (00.00)
Orlando City SC v Philadelphia Union (00.30)
Chicago Fire v Atlanta United FC (01.00)
Minnesota United FC v San Jose Earthquakes (01.00)
Sporting Kansas City v Los Angeles Football Club (01.30)
Houston Dynamo v New York Red Bulls (02.00)
Real Salt Lake v Columbus Crew SC (03.00)
Big Matches
The live match on TV for us to watch comes from Florida where Orlando City will look to take it to the Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union in a match that is big for both teams. The other key clash on the evening comes in the Western Conference where it is bottom of the pile against top as Sporting Kansas City host Los Angeles FC in what you feel is a big match for the home side who really shouldn’t be where they are in the table.
Best of the Rest
There a couple of appealing matches on the card too. New York City FC and Seattle Sounders will both have their eyes on the title in a few months and they meet at Yankee Stadium while Chicago Fire will look to put their winless run to an end when they host the champions Atlanta United while Minnesota United look to build on their huge win at the weekend when they entertain the in form Sam Jose Earthquakes. The other two matches sees Houston Dynamos hosting New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake taking on Columbus Crew.
Betting
I’ll go with just the one bet on Wednesday night, knowledgeable that these midweek matches can sometimes be much different to the weekend contests that we see, as well as mindful of the fact that internationals are still going on and while players are beginning to return they will most likely be knackered and either not be available or not be at their best if they are around.
The match in question is the one between the Chicago Fire and Atlanta United where I’m expecting to see some goals. We saw in New York over the weekend that Chicago can create a load of chances but have vulnerability at the back and we have seen much the same from Atlanta on the road this season as well which makes me think goals will flow here. Atlanta’s last two games on the road have gone over 2.5 goals while matches in Chicago this season average three per game. I think the 4/5 on this one having three or more looks good especially with Atlanta starting to find their shooting boots.
