The Major League Soccer regular season continues on Sunday night with a repeat of the last game as FC Dallas host Nashville SC as both sides look to make up time that they lost by being unable to appear in the MLS is Back tournament.
These two met on Wednesday evening and Nashville ran out narrow winners with a goal late on. That should spark FC Dallas into life so we should get another competitive match out of these two to keep us entertained.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live on Free Sports for those of us in the UK. The build up begins at 1.35am with the match kicking off shortly after that. It is also on offer on the streaming consoles at bookmaker sites.
FC Dallas
FC Dallas have had plenty of issues with Covid-19 and things like that over the last few months but I think they will be disappointed to lose that first game. They were the better side for the most part although they didn’t really test the Nashville keeper as much as their dominance suggested that they should have done, and ultimately they paid the price late on which would have been the most disappointing thing of all.
One thing which would have pleased the FC Dallas coaching staff was the way they defended and the way they controlled the ball and kept possession. That was a solid platform to build on and if you go back to the tournament in Orlando, we saw plenty of sides really improve naturally for a run out. If that happens to the Dallas side here then they are entitled to feel that this is a match they can come out on top in.

Nashville SC
Given that they had lost their opening two matches as an MLS franchise, Nashville SC will be delighted to get their first win at this level on Wednesday night, and in many ways the performance they delivered was in keeping with the style we expected to see from them heading into their debut campaign in the league. It might just be that the stop-start nature of the season has benefitted them as they are not relying on crisp attacking play.
Nashville are going to look to contain opponents and see what they can get on the break and while extra subs are allowed they will pack their bench with pacey players and look to win matches late on. That is exactly how it transpired on Wednesday evening and we would be foolish to expect anything different from the new boys in this match. If there is a bit of natural improvement in them that would be a bonus for them.
Betting
I took under 2.5 goals on Wednesday night and although the price has tightened a little bit, it hasn’t done so by enough to sway me from taking it again here. Simply put, these are not free scoring sides. One team is set up mainly to contain and lack that attacking powerhouse that is needed at this level while the others are solid and structured and when they win their victories tend to come by tight margins rather than big scores.
Although I expect to see some natural improvement in the cohesiveness of both teams, neither keeper was particularly tested the other night and I think we will need to see a lot more from both attacking units or something unforeseen in order to see three goals here. Nashville aren’t set up to be free scoring and Dallas are just too structured to break sides down at will. Even at 17/20 under 2.5 goals looks a pretty good thing to me.
