The majority of the weekend matches in the MLS this week come along on Sunday and although a couple of fixtures have been scratched from the schedule due to Covid-19 issues, there is still lots to enjoy on the penultimate Sunday of the regular season.
With the two postponements we are left with nine matches over the course of Sunday evening with three of them being shown on UK TV while as always the other six will be available in full on the bookmaker streaming consoles.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Columbus Crew vs Philadelphia Union (20.30 – Sky Football)
Atlanta United FC v FC Cincinnati (00.00)
New York City FC v New York Red Bulls (00.00 – Free Sports)
Montreal Impact v Orlando City SC (00.30)
New England Revolution v D.C. United (00.30)
Toronto FC v Inter Miami CF (00.30)
Colorado Rapids v Seattle Sounders FC (02.00 – Free Sports)

Big Matches
The televised action comes straight from the off as two of the best in the Eastern Conference meet when the Columbus Crew take on the leaders Philadelphia Union in what could well end up being a rehearsal for the final of the Eastern Conference later in the month. The action then heads to the Big Apple for the latest Hudson River derby as New York City FC take on the New York Red Bulls with both teams looking to strengthen their play-off position. The final televised match of the night sees the champions Seattle Sounders looking head back to the top of the Western Conference when they make the trip to take on Colorado Rapids.
Best of the Rest
Toronto FC will look to keep up the chase for the number one seed in the East when they host an Inter Miami side who are fighting hard to be involved in the play-offs while DC United continue their late burst to steal a spot in the postseason with a trip to Gillette Stadium to take on New England Revolution while Atlanta United host FC Cincinnati. Over in the Western Conference there is another leg of the Cascadia Cup where Portland Timbers host the team who is sharing their ground for the remainder of the season in the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Betting
This doesn’t feel like a night to go big on a number of bets and as such I’ll take just the one which comes later in the evening when the Portland Timbers host their rivals Vancouver Whitecaps. In essence this match is probably bigger for the Whitecaps than the Timbers given that the former champions are already secured in the play-offs and the Canadians are fighting hard to get in with the elite of the Western Conference but despite that I like the official home side here.
After an upturn in their form there are just a few signs that the Vancouver Whitecaps are starting to find the going a little tough here. I say that because they’ve lost two of their last three now and having been away from their homes and families for so long it must be hard to stay motivated. Portland have no such issues. Their form has generally been pretty good with just one defeat in their last 10. They go into this one off the back of a 5-2 win over the Galaxy so should be full of confidence and can win this week too.
