The Major League Soccer regular season is nearing its conclusion which means that the midweek round of matches carries plenty of significance, particularly for those teams who are yet to secure their spot in the extended postseason.
We have two matches taking place on Tuesday evening which feature four sides currently in the play-off spots in their respective Conferences although three of them have not yet secured their place in the postseason so it is a big night for those teams. Both matches are live on TV in the UK.
Montreal Impact vs Nashville SC (23.00 – Sky Football)
The opening match of the night comes from the Eastern Conference where two sides clinging on in the lower reaches of the play-off spots have the chance to enhance their credentials when the Montreal Impact host Nashville SC in a game neither will want to lose.
Montreal looked like they were going to make it safely into the postseason but a run of three defeats in four matches have left them looking over their shoulder and a victory here while not being paramount would certainly ease the pressure on them. Nashville have steadily picked up points this season and have only lost one of their last eight matches and if they avoid defeat here they will be well placed as they seek a play-off role on their debut in the league. Nothing really stands out to me here though so I’ll watch this rather than bet on it.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs Seattle Sounders (02.00 – Free Sports)
The second match of the night comes from the Western Conference and is the latest battle for the Cascadia Cup between the two rival teams of Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders in a match coming from the home of the third team in the Cascadia series – Portland Timbers.
Not too long ago it looked like this was going to be a write off of a campaign for the Whitecaps so it is very much to their credit that they have rebounded and pushed for a place in the postseason. The fact they have done it recently with their home matches at a neutral venue. Seattle Sounders are used to producing their best football in October and November but they go into this match without a win in their last three matches, although it should be said that they have faced two of the top four in the Western Conference in those outings.
One of the reasons for the recent struggle for the Sounders has been the absence of three key players due to quarantine rules having been on international duty earlier in the month. One of those was Raul Ruidiaz who is arguably their most important player. All three will be back here and that should make a real difference. Seattle have already beaten Vancouver comfortably twice this season and I expect them to take this too.
