We have finally reached ‘Decision Day’ in the regular MLS 2021 season with the last round of matches all taking place on what promises to be an exciting, dramatic and tense Sunday where we have 13 fixtures over the course of the night.
Four of the 13 matches will be live on TV for us in the UK to enjoy and the other nine will all be available with the bookmaker streams on an evening where the 14 teams moving into the postseason will be confirmed.

Big Matches
It is winner takes all in one of the two Eastern Conference matches on TV on Sunday evening when CF Montreal host Orlando City SC. Orlando have the draw but whoever wins this match will be in the postseason and the loser might not be. It is all about securing homefield advantage in the other game when New York City look to book a home game in the first round of the playoffs when they welcome the Philadelphia Union to Yankee Stadium. Over in the Western Conference it is all about qualifying for the playoffs when LA Galaxy look to hold off the chasing pack when they welcome Minnesota United to California. The other match sees Colorado Rapids, who could secure top spot in the Western Conference with a win, taking on Los Angeles FC who need to win to have a chance of making it into the playoffs.
Best of the Rest
The remainder of the night is really all about the race for the number one seed in the Western Conference. It is in the hands of the Seattle Sounders and if they win away to the Vancouver Whitecaps they not only win the Cascadia up but also get the first round bye in the playoffs. If they slip up though then Sporting Kansas City control their own destiny. They will get the number one seed if they can beat Real Salt Lake. The visitors in that match have to win if they are going to be in the playoffs though. Elsewhere, the New York Red Bulls need to win to guarantee their playoff appearance. They head to Nashville SC but if they lose it might open the door to the champions Columbus Crew who would need to win against the Chicago Fire and overturn a seven goal disadvantage in the goal difference. DC United could also sneak in but they will need to win well at Toronto FC.
Betting
There almost has to be goals when Sporting Kansas City meet Real Salt Lake on Sunday night. Salt Lake have to win the game or their season is done and their defence has just collapsed in the last couple of matches so you would imagine they will take the game to their opponents here. Sporting Kansas City matches are generally high scoring especially their home matches so goals do look a natural proposition in this contest.
Although Sporting Kansas City are safely in the playoffs and don’t have the destiny of the number one seed in their own hands, winning and making sure they finish in the top two would give them two home matches in the playoffs which is still pretty significant so they are going to be all about for a win here. The draw doesn’t do anything for either of these teams so I’m expecting an open contest and one which will be relatively high scoring.
