We have reached rivalry weekend in the Major League Soccer season and it gets underway with three tasty looking matches on Friday evening as six rivals play off against each other in the hunt for important points to go to their tally.
All three matches are from the Eastern Conference which means they are all at a watchable time for us in the UK. Two of the three are on TV for us to enjoy and the other one will be able to be watched on the bookmaker streaming services.
Columbus Crew vs FC Cincinnati (23.30)
The first match to kick off in the evening is the ridiculously named ‘Hell is Real’ derby which sees the champions Columbus Crew looking to snap a six match losing streak when they take on FC Cincinnati, who themselves are without a win in quite some time.
One of the surprises of the season has been this horrible slump in form of the Columbus Crew and if they don’t snap it here against a Cincinnati side that have never been anything but bang average since their admission into MLS then alarm bells really will start to sound. In many ways this is a free hit for FC Cincinnati who have much less pressure on them while they bid to adjust to a competitive level but I’m far from convinced they are good enough to win here. Two bang out of form sides so this is easily left alone.

CF Montreal vs Toronto FC (00.30 – Free Sports)
The middle match of the evening sees the focus of attention head over the border into Canada where CF Montreal will look for the three points which will keep the chasers for their top seven spot at bay when they host rock bottom Toronto FC.
Toronto FC are the biggest disappointments of the season and while a series of injuries and the Gold Cup has had a lot to do with that they clearly haven’t been good enough and face a tricky test against CF Montreal. Montreal aren’t in the best of form themselves though so this derby might not have arrived at the best time for either team. As with the earlier match in the evening this one is pretty easy to leave alone although you would expect Toronto FC to come good eventually.
Orlando City vs Inter Miami (01.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
The pick of the matches in the evening is the final one to kick off as the two Floridian sides meet at Exploria Stadium as Orlando City look to close the gap to New England Revolution at the top of the Eastern Conference when they host an Inter Miami side who can close in on the top seven if they win here.
Orlando City have been one of the best teams this season and are generally very tough to beat on their own patch but Inter Miami will fancy their chances in this one as they arrive having won four of their last six after an absolutely terrible start to the campaign. Those four wins were all at home so they will need to prove they can do it on the road if they are to push into the postseason places when the play-offs come around. I expect to see both sides going for it here and with the attacking places that are on show here I don’t think it is going to take a whole lot for goals to come along. They generally come along when these two meet and in a high profile Friday night clash I expect to see more than 2.5 goals in this one.
