Another huge midweek in the MLS 2021 season gets underway with a big clash in the Western Conference on Tuesday evening when Los Angeles FC play host to the Seattle Sounders in a match neither will want to lose.
If Los Angeles want to be involved in the playoffs they need to win two of their last three, if not all of them, while Seattle need to win at least two of their last three to claim the number one seed in the Western Conference and even that might not be enough. Losing isn’t really an option for either here and a draw doesn’t help much either.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live on Free Sports in the UK with the programme beginning at 3.35am and the game kicking off shortly after. It will also be available to watch on the bookmaker streams.
Los Angeles FC
This has been a surprisingly inconsistent season for Los Angeles FC. We are used to seeing them dominate the regular season and then flounder a bit when it comes to playoff time but they just haven’t been able to find anything this term. Big players either being injured or surprisingly loaned out without replacements coming in has certainly been a factor in that, but even so there is enough in the LAFC squad to be higher up the table than what they are.
There are one or two sides that the Black and Gold might be getting it right though. They head into this game undefeated in four matches and if they can do enough over their final three games of the regular season to finish in the top seven they will head into the playoffs in decent form. You would think they will need to improve defensively in order for that to happen. It has been nine matches since they last kept a clean sheet and that needs to change you would think.

Seattle Sounders
In a way this has been a different looking season for the Seattle Sounders too. The way they usually do things is stumble out of the blocks and then get to the break in the middle of the season, take stock of where they are and then fly home. That hasn’t really been the case this term though. They have been in the upper portion of the Western Conference table for much of the campaign, but they are without a win in three heading in here and need to prove they haven’t already run their race.
One of the things which has hampered Seattle recently has been injuries. They have been without their three best players for the last few matches but they might get Nico Lodeiro back for this one which would be a boost to them. Seattle need to turn their form around between now and the end of the season whether they secure the number one seed or not as no team wants to go into the playoffs off the back of a winless run.
Betting
On current form you would say that Los Angeles FC would win this match but this is one that both teams will be eager to win and that might just focus the mind of the Seattle Sounders so I’m a little reluctant to get involved in the match outcome. That isn’t a bad thing though because the better bet comes elsewhere in the game. That is in the form of the goals market where over 2.5 goals is a very attractive price in a match which historically is full of goals.
Last season these two teams met on five occasions and there were three or more goals in each and every one of them. Their two clashes this season haven’t been as high scoring but their inconsistency has been a part of that. I think that the situation the two sides are in here with them both needing to win will ensure we get goals in this game, and if one comes early this could easily turn into one of those bonkers MLS matches we see all the time at this stage of the season. Both have to win for their respective needs here, draws aren’t going to cut it so I expect both to go out to try and get that win. That means over 2.5 goals.
