The opening weekend of the MLS season continues on Saturday evening as half of the league gets their campaign underway with many of them involved in rivalry matches to add a little extra spice to the evening.
There are eight matches in total on Saturday night, three of which can be seen live on TV in the UK but one of the beauties of this league is that the remaining matches are all shown live on the bookmaker streams so we don’t need to miss a kick of the action.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
CF Montréal v Toronto FC (19.00)
Orlando City SC v Atlanta United (20.00 – Free Sports)
Los Angeles Football Club v Austin FC (23.00 – Free Sports)
D.C. United v New York City FC (01.00)
FC Dallas v Colorado Rapids (01.00)
New York Red Bulls v Sporting Kansas City (01.00 – Free Sports)
Chicago Fire FC v New England Revolution (01.30)
Nashville SC v FC Cincinnati (01.30)

Big Matches
The first of the TV matches on this side of the pond sees the former champions Atlanta United looking to use the fact that they have already played a couple of competitive games in the North American Champions League to their advantage when they head to face rivals Orlando City. The second TV match sees the new boys making their MLS debut as Austin FC head to California to take on Los Angeles FC. The final match in front of the cameras over here sees the New York Red Bulls hosting Sporting Kansas City in a clash between two sides who will be expecting deep postseason runs this term.
Best of the Rest
The action begins with the Canadian battle between Montreal Impact and Toronto FC while there are a few other all-Eastern Conference clashes on the card with DC United hosting New York City in one of them while Chicago Fire begin their season against the New England Revolution. Nashville SC take on FC Cincinnati in the other match. The only Western Conference clash comes in the form of FC Dallas going up against Colorado Rapids.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the evening which comes in the third of those TV matches as New York Red Bulls play host to Sporting Kansas City. I’m expecting these teams to be quite free scoring this season with the emphasis more on going forward than on defending. That is often the case when these sides collide anyway and their matches, while not as frequent as if they were in the same Conference, are often high scoring as a result.
The Red Bulls’ younger players have had a season or two to get up to speed with this division and they have done some good work in the close season while Sporting Kansas City have promoted a couple of promising youth players who will help with their attack that was already decent enough. We saw on Friday night that the opening round of games in this league are generally entertaining affairs before the competition settles down a touch. I like over 2.5 goals here.
