Big Matches
The action begins with a corker of a contest as the top two in the Western Conference meet at Lumen Field when the Seattle Sounders host Sporting Kansas City. A Seattle win could see them move nine points clear of SKC and they would be almost assured of the number one seed. The second televised match of the evening is huge for the reigning champions when Columbus Crew host New York Red Bulls. Both sides sit outside the playoff places in the Eastern Conference and know they have to win to keep up their charge. The third game of the night carries no real significance as Inter Miami and FC Cincinnati will be watching on when the playoffs come around. That certainly isn’t the case in the last TV game as Vancouver Whitecaps will look to protect their seventh position in the Western Conference. They head to the San Jose Earthquakes who can move to within four points of them with a win.
Best of the Rest
Eighth plays seventh in the Eastern Conference when New York City FC host DC United in a match that neither can afford to lose. CF Montreal are nothing like safe in the top seven either and they head to Toronto FC looking for a win which will help their playoff push. Over in the Western Conference Real Salt Lake will look to move into the top seven when they make the trip to Chicago Fire while Los Angeles FC have the chance to get back in the playoff places when they travel to Minnesota United who aren’t guaranteed a top seven spot themselves yet. Colorado Rapids host Portland Timbers in another good game.
Betting
I’ll go with one bet over the course of the evening where I like the Philadelphia Union to get the better of Nashville SC. I get that Nashville are second in the Eastern Conference but they haven’t won for a while and have drawn their last five matches. Subaru Park is never an easy place for visiting sides to go and although the Union haven’t been as strong this season as it was last season when they won the Supporters’ Shield, a lot of that was their focus on the Champions League.
Their focus can now switch to the MLS and pushing on to try and win MLS Cup and if they are going to do that a win here would certainly be no bad thing. These could very well meet in the playoffs and if that is to be the case then Philadelphia have a chance to lay down a marker here. I respect Nashville SC but the last few matches they have looked like a side who are seeing out the regular season and waiting for the playoffs to begin. That makes it advantage Union for me.
