Big Matches
The televised action begins quite early in the night when Nashville SC play their first home match of the season when they welcome the Montreal Impact to Tennessee. As that match concludes the next TV game begins when San Jose Earthquakes host FC Dallas in a Western Conference clash before the match of the night which sees Los Angeles FC taking on the beaten MLS Cup finalists Seattle Sounders which could be a significant match in the Western Conference. It is back to the east for the next two matches with New England Revolution taking on DC United and the Supporters’ Shield holders Philadelphia Union welcoming Phil Neville and his Inter Miami side to Subaru Park. The TV action concludes back in the Western Conference when Portland Timbers open up their Providence Park campaign against the Houston Dynamo.
Best of the Rest
The action actually gets underway earlier in the evening at Yankee Stadium as New York City host FC Cincinnati while later in the night there is a second all-Canadian clash in as many weeks as Toronto FC host Vancouver Whitecaps at the home of Orlando City. Three more matches take place over the night. Atlanta United welcome Chicago Fire to Mercedes-Benz Stadium while Minnesota United take on a Real Salt Lake team who open up their season here having had the bye last week. The other match sees the Colorado Rapids taking on the newcomers Austin FC.
Betting
There are a few bets which tempted me over the course of the night but it is still a little early in the season to be playing bigger handicaps and things like that so I’m largely going to use Saturday evening as a watching brief and get a feel for how the teams are shaping up and their styles and things like that. I will go with the one bet though which comes in one of the televised offerings where the Philadelphia Union meet Inter Miami.
Subaru Park is a very hard place for a visiting team to go and win at and I’m not convinced that Inter Miami are going to crack the code even with their star-studded side. We saw last week that for all their quality going forward there remains a defensive deficiency in the Miami team and Philadelphia have the personnel to take advantage of that. They are up and running from a competitive viewpoint having been in the Champions League prior to MLS starting. There was a fear going into the season that Miami might be underdone from a preparation point of view so we might not see the best of them for a few weeks. Union are so good at home and I like them here.
