Another weekend concludes in the MLS on Sunday when the last three matches take place on what has been another entertaining round of matches, where potentially the best is yet to come given the Sunday schedule.
We have the Supporters’ Shield holders, MLS Cup finalists and a couple of other champions on show on what should be a decent Sunday, one where all three matches are live across the two UK TV channels that cover Major League Soccer.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Seattle Sounders vs Atlanta United (21.30 – Sky Football)
DC United vs Philadelphia Union (00.00 – Free Sports)
Nashville SC vs Austin FC (02.00 – Free Sports)

Preview
The action begins with two former champions battling it out in a match which might tell us a lot about where they both are. Seattle Sounders have surprisingly flown out of the traps this season and will be looking to pick up another three points at home when they host an Atlanta United team who have lost their way as a franchise since the exit of Tata Martino and are battling to get back to former glories under Gabriel Heinze. This is a huge test of their credentials.
The second match of the night comes from Audi Field as DC United look to ease their way away from the foot of the Eastern Conference when they host the Philadelphia Union, the Supporters’ Shield holders who look to have got themselves going after stuttering while the Champions League was on. The week finishes at the Nissan Stadium where the undefeated Nashville SC host the new franchise this season in Austin FC. They will be looking to get back on track after a couple of defeats recently.
Betting
I’ll take a bet in the first match of the night and then sit back and have a watching brief on the other two. That means the bet comes in the match between Seattle Sounders and Atlanta United where I’m expecting a home win here. There is a strong historical trend that would support that because since they won the title in 2018, Atlanta United have only won eight of their 30 MLS away matches whereas Seattle Sounders are renowned as being one of the best home sides in the competition.
That has continued this season with Atlanta yet to win away and Seattle having won their three home matches without conceding. You’d expect Atlanta to fare much better overall this season with Josef Martinez back up top but things haven’t really clicked in front of goal for them yet with just six goals in five matches. Half of those came in one match against the Chicago Fire so things still aren’t back on the right path for Atlanta. Even if they were playing well this would be a tough ask for Atlanta but given they are not quite on it I’ve got to think Seattle will win this with a bit in hand, particularly when you factor in their emphatic beginning to the season.
