MLS 2021 – Wednesday 18th August Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The majority of the midweek matches in the MLS season this week come along on Wednesday on a night where a huge number of teams will look to enhance their positions in the two league tables over the course of the evening.

Big Matches

The leaders of the Eastern Conference will get the televised action underway on Wednesday evening when New England Revolution play host to a decent enough DC United side in one of the best matches of the evening. Shortly after they have kicked off Inter Miami will look to continue their recent good run of form when they host the Chicago Fire. The other TV match comes from the Western Conference and it sees Real Salt Lake going up against the Houston Dynamo.

Best of the Rest

Sporting Kansas City will look to consolidate their advantage at the top of the Western Conference table when they host the Portland Timbers in the big match out in the west while New York City FC will look to continue their good recent form when they head to Subaru Park to take on the Supporters’ Shield holders Philadelphia Union. Third meets fourth in the Eastern Conference as Nashville SC host Orlando City SC while the champions Columbus Crew will look to arrest a four-match losing burst when they head to the New York Red Bulls. Atlanta United will look to continue their revival under their new boss when they take on Toronto FC.

Betting

Real Salt Lake did me a good turn on Saturday and I’m happy to back them again at a very generous 8/11. I say generous because Houston Dynamo don’t have an away win to their name all season and haven’t won any of their last 12 matches. There are a few draws in that 12 game winless sequence but at the end of the day that is a long time without a win and heading to one of the better home teams in MLS in recent times isn’t likely to see that sequence broken.

Real Salt Lake are getting a decent attacking unit together and I expected them to build into the season as Bobby Wood got up to speed and now that he is in decent touch I expect RSL to go from strength to strength. I don’t have the same vibes about Houston Dynamo. They seem to struggle the longer a season goes on and that has to be a concern for all involved. Real Salt Lake is never an easy place to go and I don’t expect Houston to get anything from their trip there here.
