Big Matches

The televised action begins with the first match of the evening as the Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution take on a Toronto FC who will be looking to respond from a humbling to DC United at the weekend. Later in the night second placed Orlando City will look to keep up their fine run when they head to Soldier Field to take on a Chicago Fire who have shown signs of life over the last week or so. The televised action concludes in the Western Conference where the joint leaders Seattle Sounders host the draw specialists Houston Dynamo. The final match sees the Vancouver Whitecaps hosting a Real Salt Lake who will be looking for some good form to move into the play-off places.

Best of the Rest

With the two sides above them not in action on Wednesday evening, New York City have the chance to climb a couple of places when they go away to CF Montreal. The other non-televised matches all come from the Western Conference with Austin FC continuing their run of home matches when they host Los Angeles FC while the Colorado Rapids take on Minnesota United. The final match of the night sees two sides looking to bounce back from disappointing results at the weekend when LA Galaxy take on FC Dallas.

Betting

There are a few bets which tempt me over the course of the evening but I’m aware that players have left for the Gold Cup now so I’ll wait and see how all the absences affect the sides before I really wade in but there is one which I’m happy to get on and that comes in the form of Orlando City, who I expected to lose a couple more players to the Gold Cup than they have. They have lost Daryl Dike to it but they were without him at the start of the season while he was away on loan at Barnsley and they weren’t too inconvenienced by it.

They take on a Chicago Fire side who have found their scoring boots in recent times but who lose their captain Francisco Calvo now as he is off to the Gold Cup. Although the Fire had a good win over Atlanta at the weekend, it was only 11 days or so ago that they were losing to FC Cincinnati. Orlando have only lost to the New York Red Bulls this season and I think that is more a bogey team thing than anything else. They have kept hold of the likes of Nani, Chris Mueller and have Alexandre Pato back soon so given that they haven’t been inconvenienced by international call ups I’ll take Orlando to get something from this one.
