Big Matches
The televised action begins with a couple of games from the Western Conference as four of the biggest names in the division are on show. We begin at Lumen Field where Seattle Sounders host the leaders Los Angeles FC in a match which could see the visitors move seven points clear at the top for a few hours. Once they are done LA Galaxy welcomes Portland Timbers to California. The third televised match is the only one of the evening which features the Eastern Conference as the New York Red Bulls welcome Toronto FC. The final match of the evening as far as TV coverage is concerned sees FC Dallas taking on Vancouver Whitecaps.
Best of the Rest
With New York City FC not in action until Sunday evening, the Philadelphia Union will be looking to move to the top of the Eastern Conference table when they host FC Cincinnati. CF Montreal will be looking to move level on points with NYCFC when they host Austin FC while Real Salt Lake will be looking to make a positive move in the Western Conference when they host San Jose Earthquakes. Elsewhere, Columbus Crew host Charlotte FC, Orlando City take on Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire go up against DC United.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the evening which comes in the match up in Canada as CF Montreal play host to Austin FC in a match I expect to contain plenty of goal action between two sides who are the joint second highest scorers in MLS. Montreal home matches are averaging four goals per game this season and there is certainly more of an attacking intent about them this season. Austin away games are a shade under 3.5 goals on average so the statistics are certainly with us.
I think both of these sides are better when they are going forward than when they are looking to soak up pressure and the numbers would certainly support that. This is the first time the two sides have met so there is no scar tissue or anything like that to worry about. Five of Montreal’s last six have had at least three goals while that is seven of the last eight Austin matches that fit that trend. I think we see at least three goals here and hopefully more to turn a push into a winner.
