The MLS season continues to kick into life on Saturday night when another bunch of matches take place in the league which will further assist the two Conference tables to take shape as we build our way into the campaign.

Big Matches

The televised action begins in California on Saturday evening when LA Galaxy will look to bounce back from their defeat to Seattle Sounders last week when they host Orlando City. The second TV game sees Chicago Fire looking to build on a solid start to the season when they entertain Kansas City Chiefs before the new boys Charlotte FC play host to the Supporters’ Shield holders New England Revolution who might still be reeling from their Champions League exit in midweek. The televised action concludes in Texas when the Houston Dynamos host Colorado Rapids in an all-Western Conference showdown.

Best of the Rest

The standout match on Saturday afternoon is the one which comes from Yankee Stadium where the champions New York City FC host Philadelphia Union. DC United have made a good start to the season and they will be hoping to back that up when they make the trip to take on Toronto FC while Atlanta United will be looking to build on their two home wins to start the season when they host CF Montreal. With Los Angeles FC not playing until Sunday, Real Salt Lake have the chance to hit the front in the Western Conference when they host Nashville SC while two of the poorer sides in the competition open up the show when FC Cincinnati take on an Inter Miami side who really need to show something positive. Minnesota United will look to preserve their unbeaten start when they host San Jose Earthquakes, as will Portland Timbers who head to FC Dallas.

Betting

CF Montreal have made a slow start to the MLS season but we probably shouldn’t be surprised at that. Teams who play in the Champions League often do start out slowly not just because they target that competition but also because of the short turnaround in matches in that competition and this and that is exactly what the Canadians have here. They had to put a lot of effort in to try and beat Cruz Azul on Wednesday night and now 66 hours later they have to travel to Atlanta to take on a side who are very good at home.

This isn’t yet the Atlanta United that it was under Tata Martinez but they are warming to the task, particularly at home where they have already won twice this season. Josef Martinez is back leading the line which always makes them dangerous prospects and while the support cast to him are working their way into the season they should have more than enough for a jaded Montreal side here. Atlanta are decent defensively and capable of controlling the football and if they can keep hold of it for long periods early on they could take whatever energy is left in the Canadians out of them and should run out comfortable winners. Montreal have lost 2-0 and 4-1 away from home after a Champions League game this season already and I expect something similar here.
