Big Matches

The televised action goes right from the off for us on this side of the pond and it begins with a battle between the champions New York City FC and a New England Revolution side who are looking like the team who won the Supporters’ Shield last season. We have a Cascadia Cup clash in the second televised match on Saturday when the Champions League winning Seattle Sounders host the beaten MLS Cup finalists last year in Portland Timbers. The third televised match on Saturday is the battle of Florida as Orlando City play host to Inter Miami before we head west for the final game as Real Salt Lake take on the Colorado Rapids.

Best of the Rest

There are some decent matches away from the TV spotlight on Saturday evening too with one of them coming at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium where Atlanta United host one of the teams of the season so far in Austin FC. FC Cincinnati matches have been pretty wild recently and neutrals will be hoping that their clash with the New York Red Bulls, who headed the Eastern Conference going into the weekend, will live up to those expectations. There is another Texas derby when Houston Dynamo host FC Dallas while Toronto FC will take on San Jose Earthquakes although it appears the Canadian faithful will have to wait to see marquee signing Lorenzo Insigne in action as he has picked up a knock. One star signing who could debut is Cucho Hernandez when Columbus Crew head to the Chicago Fire.

Betting

After a winner in the Los Angeles derby on Friday night I’ll go with just the one on Saturday evening which comes in the match between Atlanta United and Austin FC. These are two of the better teams to watch in MLS, particularly Atlanta when they are at home and I’m expecting goals here. We saw last week that Atlanta carry a big goal threat with their technical midfielders and quality attacking players, but at the same time they look vulnerable whenever a team attacks them.

Austin FC are certainly likely to do that. Nobody had scored more goals than them in MLS this season heading into this weekend and in Sebastian Druissi and Diego Fagundez they have a dynamite pairing who can exploit this Atlanta defence. Atlanta are averaging more than two goals a game on their own patch this season so I expect to see two classy attacks go at it here. The goal line for this one is up at 3.25 but I still think that gets covered.
