Preview
The first of the two televised matches comes from Soldier Field as the champions New York City FC look to end a three match losing streak when they go to a Chicago Fire who have hit a bit of form recently. That match is in the Eastern Conference and then the second match on TV comes from the Western Conference where Nashville SC will look to return to winning ways when they host the third placed team in the division in FC Dallas.
The action actually begins with a couple of recent former champions when the 2020 MLS Cup winners Columbus Crew play host to an Atlanta United side who might be drinking in the last chance saloon. Charlotte FC had a notable win away to the champions in midweek and will look to follow that up when they host Orlando City with both sides now out of the top seven so needing a win there. The other match sees Sporting Kansas City welcoming a Portland Timbers side who could do with a morale boosting win.
Betting
When Sporting Kansas City played the Portland Timbers in the reverse fixture between the two earlier in the season they were beaten 7-2 and I’m expecting plenty more goals when they meet at Children’s Mercy Park. This is a fixture that traditionally delivers a number of goals and although I’m not expecting to see another nine here, both teams know they can score against the other and I think the plight of the Timbers might just ensure they keep coming here.
Portland are not in the top seven in the Western Conference so a match against the bottom team in the division has to be seen as one they have to win. Going out to win might bring about its own issues and we saw a few weeks ago that they were involved in a 4-4 draw in Minnesota. The one good thing about Kansas City having a horror season at the start of it is that they can play with freedom and have a right good go here. I think that can equate to this one going over 3 goals.
