The opening night of the MLS season was very entertaining and the first round of matches in the new campaign concludes with another five fixtures on Sunday evening as those yet to get a new term underway do exactly that.
Of the five matches we have two on the TV for us in the UK to watch and as is the case with every match in this league all of them will be able to be streamed via the bookmaker streaming service for those who offer it.

We have to wait until deeper in the evening for the televised action to come along in the UK but when it does the champions New York City FC have the chance to open up their title defence when they make the trip to regular former MLS winners LA Galaxy in one of the standout fixtures of the opening weekend. When that is done two Western Conference rivals meet when Houston Dynamo start what they hope will be a much better season than their previous one when they host a usually poor on their travels Real Salt Lake side.
The other three matches don’t look too shabby either. Sunday action begins in Florida when Orlando City, who have lost a lot of attacking power since last season, host a CF Montreal who pulled off a huge upset in the Champions League in midweek and who should be confident as a result of that. Atlanta United are fancied runners for the competition again this season and they open up their campaign at home to Sporting Kansas City. The night concludes with Seattle Sounders hosting Nashville SC in an all-Western Conference battle.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet which comes in that high profile clash in California where LA Galaxy host the champions New York City FC in a match where I’m expecting to see goals. LA Galaxy had huge defensive problems last season in terms of keeping the ball out of the back of their net and while you can’t read a huge amount into pre-season, they have continued the trend of conceding a lot of goals in the lead up to this season which is far from ideal.
New York City FC have had a couple of competitive spins in the Champions League ahead of this match. Usually that would mean we would see them rest a few players but they were so far clear in that Champions League tie that they were able to get some key players off relatively early in the second half so they might be stronger than they might usually have been. If they are not Galaxy have enough goals in them to cover a 2.5 goal line and if they are they strong enough NYCFC will have their fair share of goal action. The over looks good here.
