MLS 2023 – Saturday 14th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

It might be the international break but the MLS 2023 season has to catch up with a quartet of matches prior to Decision Day next week and three of those are played out over the course of Saturday night.

As has been the case all season and will be throughout the playoffs, the MLS Season Pass will be needed to watch full coverage of these games, although Apple TV subscribers can watch two of them without the Season Pass. Bookmaker live streams will show them too.

FC Dallas vs Colorado Rapids (01.30)

The first match to kick off on Saturday night does so at Toyota Stadium where FC Dallas will look to secure their spot in the postseason and potentially keep top four hopes alive when they host a Colorado Rapids side who are just playing out time on their season.

Dallas should have already secured their spot in the playoffs but they can’t seem to snap a run of draws. They have drawn their last four matches and six of their last seven and had they turned just two of those draws into wins they would be preparing for the playoffs and potentially getting ready to host two of the three matches in the first round. All is not lost though as a win moves them into the top seven and they could still make the top four on Decision Day. Colorado Rapids should be the ideal opponent because their season is done and they arrive in Texas a week after a 5-1 thrashing at Houston Dynamo. The Rapids have just nine points from 48 on the road this season and have lost their last nine away games. In those matches they have shipped 28 goals and with the Dallas attack having all of its key components available that trend isn’t likely to end here. A motivated Dallas side against a Colorado side on the beach should be the recipe for a comfortable home win.

Nashville SC vs New England Revolution (01.30)

Two Eastern Conference teams are on action on Saturday night when Nashville SC play host to the New England Revolution in what should have been the first game back from Leagues Cup for both but which was postponed until now after Nashville made the final of that competition.

Both of these teams have already secured their postseason spot so finding form and putting a bit of a marker down is the order of the day for each of them. There is slightly more on this for New England with them able to move into the top four and have some extra home advantage in the postseason on their side heading into Decision Day should they win. Nashville will be on the road in the two out of three first round of the playoffs so they will just be looking for some form. I think Nashville will win, if for nothing else because they have avoided significant international call ups, but the odds are about right for this one and there isn’t enough of a competitive edge for me to get involved here.

LA Galaxy vs Real Salt Lake (03.30)

The final match to kick off will do so in California where two recognisable names in the Western Conference battle it out when LA Galaxy play the penultimate game of their season when they host a Real Salt Lake who still have plenty to look forward to.

A win for Real Salt Lake will move them up to fourth in the table and then a win on Decision Day will ensure they are at home in two of the three playoff matches should they need them. That should act as motivation for them in this match but they will be looking to find some consistency. LA Galaxy saw their season officially come to an end last week so they are playing purely for pride and I would be very surprised if this one doesn’t ignite early and turn into a typical MLS clash which is full of goals. RSL are so much better in forward areas than defensive ones and the same can most certainly be said of the Galaxy. These two have met twice this season and there have been five goals in each of them. The last seven Galaxy matches have contained no fewer than 39 goals. RSL have just been involved in a five goal thriller and it would be a huge surprise were at least three more not scored in this one. I expect plenty more than three.
