Big Matches

FC Cincinnati came from behind to win in Atlanta in midweek and now they host another dangerous side at TQL Stadium when Orlando City are the visitors to the Supporters’ Shield leaders. St Louis City SC continue to lead the Western Conference and they will hope to keep up their pace at the top of that particular table when they make the trip to fellow Missouri side Sporting Kansas City for the latest match of a brewing rivalry. Speaking of rivalries, we have the Rocky Mountains Cup clash between Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids to enjoy as well as the Cascadia Cup clash between Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.

Best of the Rest

The action actually begins at Yankee Stadium where New York City FC plays host to the Vancouver Whitecaps in what should be an entertaining early kick off. Much later into the night two form teams meet in California where LA Galaxy take on the Houston Dynamo. New England Revolution moved back into second in the Eastern Conference in midweek and with Orlando in third having to take on FC Cincinnati and Philadelphia Union not in action until Sunday there is a chance for the Revs to consolidate that spot when they host Austin FC. Wilfried Nancy heads back to Stade Saputo for the first time since leaving when his Columbus Crew side cross the border to meet CF Montreal while DC United host Chicago Fire FC in a match which pits the two teams either side of the playoff line in the East against each other.

Betting

It probably isn’t the wisest thing to back a team who have one win in eight in MLS to win at odds on but I do think Nashville SC can get back to winning ways when they host Charlotte FC, a team who themselves only have one win in their last eight in MLS. The thing about Nashville is while they are on this poor run in MLS, they have made it through to the Leagues Cup final and of those last eight matches, six of them have been on their travels which is never easy in this league. This is a team who are 8-2-2 at home this term with only Philadelphia Union and FC Cincinnati winning at GEODIS Park, arguably the two best teams in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte are nowhere near that standard and have the leakiest defence in all of MLS. To be fair to Charlotte they do find the net regularly enough but they face the stingiest defence in the league here. This should be a home win.

The other bet I like over the course of the night is for Real Salt Lake to get back to winning ways when they host Colorado Rapids on home soil. The wheels look to have come off of the RSL train since the injury to Pablo Ruiz and they have lost their last two MLS matches, the latter of the two to Portland Timbers which isn’t a good result at all, but the derby clash might have come at the right time because the wheels were never on the Colorado Rapids train to begin with. They have won just three MLS matches all season from 25 outings and their season has been done for a while. They just don’t score enough goals. They have 16 goals in those 25 games and haven’t scored in their last four in MLS either side of Leagues Cup. They have only scored in one of their last six MLS away games so just look a beaten side. If Real Salt Lake are to anything this season then this is a match they should be winning and winning well regardless of the missing Pablo Ruiz.
