Big Matches
With the Western Conference leaders Seattle Sounders not in action until Sunday, it is the Eastern Conference which will draw most of the attention on Saturday evening when the leaders New England Revolution head on their travels to take on Toronto FC. Hot behind the Revs are FC Cincinnati and they host a DC United side who are beginning to show some decent form. St Louis City SC will be looking to make the most of Seattle not playing until Sunday when they look to regain top spot when they travel to FC Dallas. The two leading teams in California meet at the home of the San Francisco 49ers when San Jose Earthquakes meet Los Angeles FC in another appealing match.
Best of the Rest
Los Angeles Galaxy will have something to say about the best in California and they will look to turn their fortunes around when they host the Colorado Rapids while Houston Dynamo are in decent form and host Real Salt Lake. Despite their defeat last week Atlanta United sit third in the Eastern Conference and they head on their travels to Inter Miami who will be looking to back up their win over the Columbus Crew last week. Nashville SC have quietly moved into the top four in the East and can sustain that position if they can overcome Chicago Fire. The free match on Apple TV sees Charlotte FC looking to find some consistency against a New York City FC side who have yet to win on their travels this term.
Betting
The Portland Timbers have won two of their last three matches and are beginning to show signs of the team I expected them to be ahead of the season. The reason for their struggles prior to this run of two wins in three was very much injuries, especially in attacking areas, and while they are not completely out of the woods in that regard, they have a lot more players back to fitness and are looking much better as a result.
If anything, their opponents on Saturday, Austin FC, are struggling more with injuries. They have had issues in the centre of defence all season but it is at the top end of the pitch where they are underperforming and the absence of Diego Fagundez is causing a few issues. Austin are now without a win in six matches and have only scored three goals in that time, two of which came in a 2-2 draw with San Jose last week. The form of these two has completely flipped over and I expect Portland to continue to show that here.
