Big Matches

A decent night of MLS action gets underway in the Eastern Conference when FC Cincinnati play host to Atlanta United in what looks like a good match. When they are done we move to the Western Conference for the other standalone matches when Minnesota United look to bounce back from coughing up a 3-0 lead last week when they host the champions LA Galaxy who are yet to get going this term. Vancouver Whitecaps are the only 100% team left in MLS and the Western Conference leaders host Chicago Fire hoping to make it five wins from five.

Best of the Rest

Philadelphia Union have won three of their opening four matches but they were beaten at home last week. They will look to bounce back when a St Louis City SC side who are yet to concede a goal this term are the visitors to Subaru Park as Bradley Carnell welcomes his former team. Two recent MLS Cup winners meet at Lower.com Field as Columbus Crew take on New York City FC while Charlotte FC will look to continue their promising start to the season when they host the San Jose Earthquakes. New York Red Bulls will be eyeing up three more points when they welcome Toronto FC to Red Bull Arena while later in the night Seattle Sounders go up against the Houston Dynamo. There could be goals at Children’s Mercy Park when Sporting Kansas City host Los Angeles FC.

Betting

We are at the first of many stages this season where international call ups are going to dictate what bets we have and as a result of that I am going to go with just the two on Saturday evening. The first one comes in the match between Orlando City and DC United where despite being burned on a DC over last week I’m going in again. Orlando matches have been high scoring this season. There have been 19 goals in their four matches and now they miss their standout stopper Pedro Gallese and centre-back David Brekalo to international duty. This is a more offense minded Orlando side anyway but without some defensive personnel keeping Christian Benteke and co at bay won’t be easy. DC kept a clean sheet last week but Montreal looked very lethargic in that game and it would be a surprise if Orlando are like that here. Both these teams carry a goal threat and over 3 goals feels perfectly acceptable even in the 1.7 price range.

Portland Timbers haven’t made a particularly great start to the season and things might not get much easier for Phil Neville and his men when they have the difficult trip to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park to take on a Colorado Rapids side who are usually strong on home soil with the altitude advantage that they have. Portland have been thrashed by the Vancouver Whitecaps this season but it is the defeat in Nashville where they lost 2-0 and their hosts missed two penalties in the game which would be most worrying. The Rapids took a week to get up to speed in MLS but the Champions Cup tie with LAFC might have had a bit to do with that. They arrive into this one with good wins in Austin and San Jose and a third victory should be likely here given that they have avoided wholesale international call ups.
