Big Matches

We begin the day with three standalone matches this week with the first two coming at Eastern Conference hosting grounds. New England Revolution have made a terrible start to the season and they will be looking to go much better when New York Red Bulls are the visitors to the Gillette Stadium. Toronto FC are the other Eastern side at home. They welcome Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps while in the Western Conference, Colorado Rapids at are home to Charlotte FC. Inter Miami are the current Supporters’ Shield holders and they host the leaders in that race in Philadelphia Union.

Best of the Rest

There are a number of interesting matches elsewhere on the card with Ronny Deila welcoming his former side to Mercedes-Benz Stadium when Atlanta United host New York City FC while San Diego FC will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat as an MLS side when they host Los Angeles FC. San Jose Earthquakes will be looking to end a run of three straight defeats when they welcome Seattle Sounders to PayPal Park while LA Galaxy will be looking to get the first win of their title defence when they host Orlando City SC. Chicago Fire have won their last three and will be looking for a fourth straight win when CF Montreal head to Soldier Field while Nashville SC have also won their last three outings and they host FC Cincinnati in another juicy looking clash.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the night with the first one being the exciting looking clash between Inter Miami and Philadelphia Union where I don’t think it is the worst thought process in the world to expect goals here. Both of these teams are set up to score and are prepared to leave themselves exposed to do it. Bradley Carnell MLS teams have had an attacking philosophy to them and his Philadelphia side are no different to that and 18 goals across both ends in their five games is testament to that, but that is 17 from four without their internationals away last week. Miami matches as you would expect are averaging over three goals per game and they have missed Lionel Messi for half of their matches. This young Union attack have the pace to trouble the aging Miami defence but the class of the Floridians at the other end of the pitch will come to the fore too. Expect goals in this one and I don’t see the 3.25 line being high enough.

Chicago Fire are really living up to their name right now. They have won their last three matches in MLS and while a win over Toronto went under the radar, away successes in Dallas and Vancouver are very appealing and you can’t hide from the number of goals they are scoring at present. They now head home after three games on the road in good spirits and form and with confidence high and they should have too much for a limited CF Montreal side who with just a month of the MLS campaign gone have already seen enough of Laurent Courtois and bumped him off as boss. To be fair to Courtois, we are at the start of the season where Montreal are always on the road and this will be their sixth game out of six away from home to begin the campaign so they are doing it real tough at the minute. Montreal now haven’t scored in their last four matches and while you would imagine a coaching change will bring about different fortunes, you would imagine that will only come when they are at home and have time to work on fresh ideas. This looks a great spot for Chicago to continue their decent recent form.
