Another weekend in the MLS 2025 season concludes on Sunday with a triple header of action which culminates as ever with the Sunday Night Soccer clash as six more teams look to enhance their beginning to the campaign.
Once again all three matches will be live on the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV with an extensive build-up to the late game. Bookmaker live streams will show all three games too so there is no need to miss out on any action.
New York City FC vs Minnesota United (20.00)
The opening game of the night is a cross-Conference clash at Yankee Stadium as New York City FC will look to build on a bit of an inconsistent start to the campaign when they play host to Minnesota United who can move into the top three in the Western Conference with a win.
New York City FC have a consistently inconsistent two wins, two draws and two defeats on their ledger this season but they won’t need reminding that the two wins came in the only two matches that they have played on home soil. Minnesota United have three wins from their opening six games and are undefeated in five since the opening weekend of the season and will know they should have two more points on the board having given up a 3-0 lead in Kansas City three outings ago. This should be a competitive affair but in truth it isn’t one that I can get a real huge feel for. The one thing I would say is those who want to place a treble across the three matches could do a lot worse than stick both teams to score into the mix but that aside, I’m happy not to get involved here.

San Jose Earthquakes vs DC United (22.00)
It is a big night for MLS and the middle match of the three is a marker towards that as two of the original franchises meet at PayPal Park 30 years on from the formation of the league when the San Jose Earthquakes host DC United.
In a weird twist of fate, Bruce Arena, now coach of the Earthquakes, was in the dugout for DC United back then and that adds another storyline to this encounter. I think it is fair to say that neither of these teams are where they would want to be in their respective table this season. San Jose did actually make a decent start to the season with successive victories but they are without a win in four since then and need to get the ship turned around accordingly here. That is still one more win than DC United have mustered this term and even that win over Sporting Kansas City had a bunch of questions over it. I do like the Earthquakes this season and I hope that this will be the match that gets them back on track. DC United have holes all over their form this term. Home draws against Toronto FC and CF Montreal don’t look great while their point in Chicago needed a bicycle kick in the last minute of injury time and their last two matches they have been comfortably beaten. San Jose are four without a win but in that time they have faced Minnesota United, Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders at home and all three might well be top five in the West this season, and Charlotte away which is one of the toughest places in MLS to go. This feels much easier than those encounters so I expect a San Jose win.
If you are just following the recommended treble for some interest on the night though it might be worth taking the draw out of play just for a little bit of safety on your bet.
Inter Miami vs Toronto FC (00.00)
The Sunday Night Soccer crew head to Florida this week for the clash between two sides who will probably finish the season at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference as Inter Miami go up against Toronto FC.
The form guide pretty much tells us all that we need to know about this game. Unbeaten Inter Miami are now second in the Eastern Conference but will go back to the summit with a win here while winless Toronto FC are only off the bottom of that particular table on goal difference. The good thing for Toronto is that they might be getting Miami at the right time because the Supporters’ Shield winners from last season are in the middle of a Champions Cup tie which concludes in midweek. The bad news is going to Miami is never an easy thing to do and even if they get to escape Lionel Messi from the start here, he is likely to come in at some point. Messi or no Messi this looks like a tough assignment for Toronto. I’m leaning towards Inter Miami goals for a punt in this one. Toronto FC have conceded twice or more in all four away matches this season while Miami have scored over 1.5 goals in four of their five matches. Over 1.5 goals can complete the recommended treble but I would prefer to bump the price up for a bet and so the odds against on Inter Miami to score in both halves in what appeals here. I expect them to come out all guns blazing here. Miami have scored in both halves of all four games they have scored twice in this season and in five of their six home games against Toronto throughout the history of these meetings. Even if Messi doesn’t start Luis Suarez is in great touch and Messi might well come on for the second period so I’ll take that at odds against.
