NatWest T20 Blast
While all the County Championship action is taking place on Sunday there is also a NatWest T20 Blast match from Chesterfield as Derbyshire host Northamptonshire in the North Group with the visitors looking to skip clear at the top of the table.
Derbyshire have the chance to close in on a spot in the top four with a win here while a Northants win will all but secure them another quarter final spot and go some way to ensuring they will at home when they get there too.
Derbyshire
Derbyshire have three wins from their seven matches so far but they won their latest match on Friday night when they chased down a mammoth total to see off a Worcestershire side and back to back wins would do them the world of good.
As you would expect the Falcons have named an unchanged squad for this match which includes both overseas players Hamish Rutherford and Jimmy Neesham while Wayne Madsen is in sensational form at the minute and produced a match winning half-century on Friday night.
Northamptonshire
Despite all their losses over the last year or two in terms of personnel, Northamptonshire are still making a claim for being the best T20 side in the country at the minute. Having made two of the last three finals and now sailing clear at the top of the North Group few can rival their recent record.
Northamptonshire will continue to be without Rory Kleinveldt for this one as he is out with an injury but they have an unchanged squad from the side who demolished Birmingham on Friday night and that squad includes Richard Levi who tore Derbyshire apart when these two sides met earlier in the campaign.
Betting
There are a couple of bookmakers who can’t split these but while they can’t I certainly can. Right now I think Northamptonshire are as close to a side you can back blind in this tournament as there is. They are putting up massive totals with the bat and restricting sides with the ball even though they are without Kleinveldt and Seekkuge Prasanna.
Derbyshire knocked off a high total against Worcestershire on Friday night but the Rapids have lost their way in the last couple of weeks so I’m not sure what we can get out of that. One thing we do know is Derbyshire haven’t made it out of the group in 11 years and they haven’t been all that consistent this season either.
Consistent is the one thing Northamptonshire have been this season. The only match they have lost was to a Worcestershire side who were on top form at the time they beat them. They turned over the other best side in the division on Friday night and have won matches with the bat and the ball this season and at 10/11 I’m happy to be on them here.
