We have a battle of the West to begin Week seven of the NFL season when the Denver Broncos make the trip to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals in the latest offering of the Thursday Night Football.
Two sides with barely a win between them pretty much have their seasons on the line on primetime so we should be assured of a competitive match here, if maybe not the best in terms of quality given what is at stake.
Arizona Cardinals
It has not been the best of beginnings to the season for the Arizona Cardinals. Expectations were on the low side heading into proceedings after an indifferent campaign where injuries bit hard last year but Sam Bradford coming on board picked things up a little. His subsequent injury has seen things dip again although rookie quarterback Josh Rosen is showing signs of being the player the birds thought they were getting.
Scoring points has been a big issue for the Cardinals this season. Only once they have scored more than 20pts but that was the game they won so the challenge for them has to be to go beyond that benchmark. In fairness to them, since the opening couple of weeks where they were a bit of a shambles, only Minnesota Vikings have scored more than 20pts against them.
Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos take a four match losing streak to Phoenix with them and going into the game off a short week makes their task pretty difficult. Although the scoreline against the Los Angeles Rams last week looks favourable for the Broncos, we should not ignore the fact that some garbage time scores gave that score a more convincing look than it deserved.
The big issue, and indeed surprise, for the Denver Broncos this season has been their leaky defence. It has not always shown on the scoreboard but this defence is shipping yardage by the bucket load and when the New York Jets are putting 34pts up on you there are problems. Although Denver won their opening two matches there was absolute nothing convincing about them and they could easily be coming here 0-6 rather than 2-4.

Betting
I’m always on the side of the home team in these Thursday night matches and when you consider that the Denver Broncos are going into the game with four straight losses that remains the case this week. I’m expecting a competitive battle but ultimately the arm strength of Josh Rosen can see the Arizona Cardinals home.
The Denver Broncos give up a stack of yards these days and many of them are deep in the passing game so they look to match up well for the Cardinals offense. If Rosen and his crew can keep the turnovers to a minimum I think they will have enough to get the job done here.
