The fifth week of action in the NFL begins with what the odds makers believe will be the most one-sided match of the week when the Indianapolis Colts head on the road to take on the New England Patriots in the Thursday Night Football.
Indianapolis head to New England with just one win from their opening four matches while New England levelled up their slate with a demolition of the Miami Dolphins last week and will be looking to get into the black here.
New England Patriots
It hadn’t been the best of starts to the campaign for the New England Patriots there is no getting away from that but they had an emphatic win last week and now they have Julian Edelman back in their offense to give them a further boost. They are also at home on a short week against an opponent they have owned in recent times so suddenly there is a lot to like about the Patriots.
I think going forward this season they will need to improve on their defensive play but they do generally get better in that department the longer the season goes on for so we shouldn’t be too concerned just yet. The big point for them is that there has been no discernible slowing down of Tom Brady.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts will head to Foxboro 1-3 for the season but worse than that they go into the match having not only lost to the Houston Texans last week but they had to endure a period of overtime too. That was the last thing they needed given the short week and the journey they have had to ensure so the Colts will be tested mentally as well as physically here.
Indianapolis have already shipped 100pts for the campaign which is an average of 25pts a match and to be fair you would have to say they haven’t really played a fully firing offense yet. The other issue they have is their defence has been on the field a lot so far because they have got no running game established at any point this season.

Betting
I’ve already highlighted a couple of times how difficult it is for the away sides to be at their best in these Thursday Night Football matches but to be fair you would fear the worst for the Indianapolis Colts in this contest no matter which day of the week it was played.
New England Patriots showed signs of coming to life last week and I expect them to kick on now that Julian Edelman is back. This Colts defence has already shipped 34pts to Cincinnati and 37 to Houston and New England are a lot more powerful than those two sides. The Patriots are used to blowouts in this fixture and I would be surprised if this is not another one.
