There are four weeks remaining in the NFL regular season and the first of those gets going with another battle between two divisional rivals in the usual Thursday Night Football. The Tennessee Titans play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars this week in an AFC South clash.
This is a huge match for the home side. They might harbour unrealistic hopes of catching the Houston Texans in the division. That is unlikely but they are bang in the race for a wildcard to the postseason. Winning is paramount for that aim though.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans ended a two match losing slump when they took care of the New York Jets last week and they will need to win three out of their last four at the very least if they are going to make it past the regular season. It might be that they need to win out from here but only time will tell in that regard. Clearly though against a side who are 4-8 for the campaign, this is a match they must come out on top in.
The Tennessee defence performed better last week and they will need to continue to do so for the remainder of the season but they have no fixtures left against a side with a winning record this term so if they can find some consistency there is nothing on paper to deny them going on a positive run. Marcus Mariota will need to show his best form in that spell too.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Much was expected of the Jacksonville Jaguars this season but they have never really got going in truth. We saw in their win over New England Patriots earlier in the campaign what they can achieve but that was their peak moment of the season and at 4-8 for the term they need snookers if they are going to be playing football in January.
The big issue for the Jaguars has been their offense. It just hasn’t fired at all this season. They have been let down in the quarterback position by Blake Bortles and Leonard Fournette has missed matches through injury and suspension. They did get a glimmer of hope under Cody Kessler last week although a 6-0 win didn’t exactly solve their offensive issues.

Betting
We’ve seen some classic matches on Thursday nights this season but I’m not expecting this one to be one of them. Both sides sit in the four lowest scoring teams in the entire league and off a short week big plays could be hard to come by. These aren’t sides who go down the field easily at the best of times. When the pair met in Jacksonville earlier in the year the Titans won 9-6 with all the points coming in field goals and I fancy we could see a quartet of field goals to determine the majority of the scoring in this one. Relying on kickers this year has not been a wise move but with over 3.5 goals odds against I’m prepared to do it here.
I’ll also have a dabble at no touchdown being scored in the match at 50/1. It has already happened between these two this season so it is clearly overpriced already and given that Jacksonville repeated the feat last week that is further the case. Tennessee’s offense isn’t struggling to quite the extent that Jacksonville’s one is but it isn’t exactly buzzing either. The price just looks too big.
