The last two places in the NFL Championship matches will be determined on Sunday night and the first of those spots will go to either the New England Patriots or the Los Angeles Chargers who meet at the Gillette Stadium.
The Patriots cruised through their division and the regular season as a whole to take the number two seeding and earn a home match here. The Chargers came second in the AFC West to the Kansas City Chiefs and whoever wins here will head to Arrowhead Stadium to meet Patrick Mahomes and co.
New England Patriots
With the form and the added profile of a few emerging sides this season, the New England Patriots have gone a little more under the radar this term than they usually would. That will suit them but there will never be a postseason campaign where people are not taking notice of the Patriots so in many ways the hard work begins now.
Tom Brady and his men will have added fuel for their fire in the form of defeat in the Super Bowl last year so they will be eager to get back there and make amends for that. If that is going to happen they are going to have to defend very well here and then be ruthless in the red zone because the Chargers are a legit side this season.
Los Angeles Chargers
One of the appealing parts of the regular season was the fantastic battle between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC West title and while Philip Rivers and his men were ultimately edged out in that race, they did not let that disappoint get the better of them and duly went to Baltimore last week and pulled off a fantastic win.
It gets no easier for the Chargers from here on in as they are going to have to win in New England and in Kansas City if they are going to travel to Atlanta for the big showpiece. Sometimes it can help knowing that is the situation as they will raise their game accordingly. They did that in Baltimore and need a performance of that sort of level if they are to keep their season going.

Betting
I must admit I am extremely tempted to take the Los Angeles Chargers to win this match, but ultimately there is plenty on the line so I will side with caution and take them with the four point start that they are being given as that covers a narrow loss late on, which can always happen in the playoffs.
New England are in good form but the last two times they’ve faced sides with nine wins or more for the season they have been beaten. I highlighted Los Angeles Chargers knowing they are on the road throughout earlier and that will have fired them up. They are in splendid form on their travels too with seven straight wins. They have the offense to go up in a shootout and the defence to make plays at the right time. Chargers +4 will do for me.
