NFL 2018 – Week 16 Sunday Early Games Betting Preview

The main set of matches in the penultimate week of the NFL season takes place over the two usual early kick off times on Sunday and with matches running out there is plenty at stake throughout the lengthy card.

Division titles and playoff spots are up for grabs over the course of the night so this is an important evening of action in the NFL with many of the matches having something on it for at least one of the teams involved.

1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)

There are a number of matches in the first kick off spot of the day with the biggest one being the TV game which sees the defending champions Philadelphia Eagles looking to keep their playoff hopes alive when they go up against AFC South champions Houston Texans. Elsewhere the Dallas Cowboys will win the NFC East if they can see off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There are four divisional matches on the schedule with the New England Patriots playing host to the Buffalo Bills while the Carolina Panthers go up against the Atlanta Falcons. In the AFC North the Cleveland Browns welcome the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions take on the Minnesota Vikings. The other games see New York Jets facing the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins host the Jacksonville Jaguars and the playoff chasing Indianapolis Colts go up against the New York Giants.

4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)

There are just the three matches in the later kick off times but one of them is absolutely huge. The New Orleans Saints can secure the number one seed in the NFC when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers who need to win to stay in front in the AFC North. That is the TV match and should be a cracker.

The other two matches see the San Francisco 49ers hosting the NFC North winners Chicago Bears with one game between NFC West rivals when the champions Los Angeles Rams make the trip to the desert to face the Arizona Cardinals.

Betting

I’m going with two bets in the early matches with both coming in the TV matches. In the first one I think the Philadelphia Eagles can keep their title defence alive when they host the Houston Texans. I know must win doesn’t equal will win but I mentioned last week that I thought Nick Foles might get a tune out of this Eagles offense again and he certainly did but the defence stood up as well and I think they’ll get the better of the Texans who have already secured their division. Houston will be without Lamar Miller which will be a big loss here and subconsciously it will be human nature to ease up a touch on the road in a largely nothing game. Eagles for me here.

In the second of the TV tussles I’m going to side with the under. 53 is a perfectly acceptable line and earlier in the season I think most would be rushing onto the over but I’ve repeatedly mentioned how the New Orleans Saints defence is bailing out a stuttering offense in recent times and Pittsburgh Steelers do not have a good record at cover points lines when they are on the road. Both teams need the win here so I’m expecting both teams to fight tough and when in front control the game rather than look to pile on the points. I’ll play the under here.
