The fourth Monday Night Football of the season comes from Heinz Field as the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Cincinnati Bengals in an AFC North divisional match between two sides who surprisingly have yet to win a single game between this term.
Given that this is a match in the division whoever wins this will kick their season into life but whoever loses it could pretty much wrap their campaign up for the year from a competitive standpoint. This is big for both.
Pittsburgh Steelers
You would have got very good odds on the Pittsburgh Steelers going into the Monday Night Football in week four 0-3 for the campaign but that is the record they have. Obviously the injury to Ben Roethlisberger has been hugely disruptive to their campaign, especially with rookie back up Mason Rudolph not really showing the form expected of him, but in front of the Steelers fans he’ll get another chance to prove his worth.
The good thing for the Steelers is that once Rudolph gets comfortable in the role, they have a talented offense for the rookie to lead. The other positive for them is that when everyone is fit defensively they have enough on that side of the ball to offer up a more competitive showing than they have given to date. They should be able to show that in this match you would think.
Cincinnati Bengals
Expectations were probably as low as they’ve been for a while heading into the season for the Cincinnati Bengals but their fans would have thought they would have got more from their side than they have done. They have suffered three straight defeats to begin the season in apart from a spirited effort last week they haven’t really been in any of them.
Injuries have been an issue for the Bengals as well this season. Leading wide receiver AJ Green continues to be out which is having a huge impact on their offensive play and injuries have also hampered the Bengals pass rush which has at times left their secondary looking like sitting ducks which is not ideal either. It will take a pretty big effort for the Bengals to go into Steeler town and win this one.
Betting
Injuries are clearly hurting both sides heading into this match but I’m happy to take the chance that Mason Rudolph comes to the party in front of his home fans. I don’t actually think he will need to do too much to come out on top in this match because his team have much the better defence and should be able to contain an injury ravaged Bengals offense.
Rudolph is unlikely to be under as much pressure in this match as well in terms of the opposing pass rush so there are a lot of things that are in the advantage of the Pittsburgh Steelers here. You would think this would be competitive being that it is a divisional game but I’m expecting the home side to have just enough to cover a field goal here.
