There are now just three weeks of the regular NFL season left and the latest one of those gets underway when the Baltimore Ravens look to solidify their chances of the number one seed in the AFC when they host the New York Jets.
The Ravens currently head the way in their Conference and will sew up the AFC North title with a win here. They will be expected to get it against a Jets side whose season is all but over, if it ever got started in the first place.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have been in sensational form in recent times. They head into this match off the back of a nine game winning streak and in that time they have taken care of the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and just last week they won on the road in Buffalo. If there is anyone doubting their credentials those results make for a standout defence of their position in the overall rankings.
Much of their success has been built on the play of quarterback Lamar Jackson, surely the MVP in waiting, but their defence is beginning to come to the party more and more as the season has gone on, making them a very tough nut to crack at the present time. The thing they might need to guard against is complacency, but in recent weeks there has been the feeling that this is a side with the bit between their teeth.

New York Jets
Injury to quarterback Sam Darnold didn’t help the New York Jets earlier in the season, but he has been back long enough to have put that behind them. To their credit that is exactly what they have done. At one stage they were 1-7 for their season but four wins in their last five mean the head to Maryland 5-8 for their campaign, and while winning out is still not going to be enough to extend their season, it does give them something to use for next term.
In that run only the New York Giants have scored more than 22pts against them, which is a tick in the box for their defence, but if we think they have turned the corner or anything like that, we only need to reference their defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals a couple of weeks ago to show that consistency isn’t quite there. They are going to need to defend well here that is for sure. Even then their offense might not be good enough.
Betting
Depending on where you shop the Baltimore Ravens are being asked to cover between 16.5pts and 18.5. I wouldn’t necessarily say there is no chance of that happening but at the same time it can’t be considered a certainty on a short week when there is little at all other than winning on their minds. I would be a little wary of garbage time scores which puts me off that.
I do expect the Baltimore Ravens to run up the points here though. The Jets are missing quite a few players on defence and the likes of Lamar Jackson and Mark Ingram could feast all over that without even mentioning the receiving options that they have. Even if the starters get rested RG3 has a point to prove so I’m fully expecting the Ravens to go beyond 29.5pts in what should be a pretty one-sided game for the first three quarters at least.
