We are reaching the business end of the NFL season now and we have our first Saturday matches of the season this week. There is a double header of action which begins with the Denver Broncos hosting the Buffalo Bills in a huge match for the visitors.
The Bills could win the AFC East this weekend if they win here and Miami lose on Sunday so there is plenty of motivation for the Buffalo outfit here. Denver have been playing out time for a while and remains the case here.
Denver Broncos
This has been a tough season for the Denver Broncos and in many ways with everything that has gone on with them a 5-8 record isn’t actually that bad. Any season when you are in the AFC West these days is going to be hard with the quality that the Kansas City Chiefs have at their disposal and then when you add the injuries and Covid issues the Broncos have had on top of that, they probably needed snookers before they started to be fair.
They do go into this match with a win over the Carolina Panthers last week under their belts and they have been assigned the role of the spoiler now as they look to make something from their season. There was more to like about them offensively last week and that is a positive as they have struggled with that side of the ball for a while. In the main their defence is still hard to break down so all eyes will be on the offense to see what it delivers here.

Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have been the dominant force in the AFC East all season and now they have to complete the job and win the division and earn themselves a home match in the play-offs. It isn’t just about getting the home game though, it is the time to make sure you are hitting peak performances with the postseason only a matter of weeks away. There are certainly signs that they are doing just that and this would give us another indication of it.
The Bills are 10-3 for the season and to be fair to them the three losses were to the Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals, three of the better sides in the NFL so there probably isn’t any shame in that. What I’ve liked about the Bills has been their response to that crazy Hail Mary play in Arizona. They have won the three matches since then including last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers so the Bills look to be going along nicely.
Betting
I’m a little bit surprised that the Buffalo Bills are only being asked to cover a four point spread in this match. While I recognise that the Denver Broncos have had their challenges and have performed better than their record suggests in light of that, the Bills look to be entering a really nice vein of form. I thought they were excellent against Pittsburgh last week in what was a really acid test for this side and I expect them to build on that here.
Had it not been for that amazing last gasp play by the Arizona Cardinals, the Bills would have won their last seven matches heading into this game. Their defence has really started to come to the party since that play though and their offense has been getting the job done for much of the season. I give credit to the Broncos but at the same time their limitations have to be recognised and I think they can be exposed in this match.
