The Monday Night Football comes from Los Angeles this week when the Los Angeles Rams look to take advantage of the defeat to the Seattle Seahawks when they host the Chicago Bears in a match between two NFC sides with winning records this season.
The Rams are 4-2 for the season but will fire themselves right into NFC West contention with a win here but that isn’t going to come easily against the 5-1 Bears who will be looking remain in control of the NFC North with their own win.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams head into this contest with their ledger looking pretty good at 4-2 but when you strip it down they have only won against teams in the wretched NFC East and those victories aren’t carrying a huge amount of weight at the minute. You can never criticise a team for winning but I think it says something that when they’ve come up against competitive sides they have been found wanting and that would be a concern here.
A lot of the success the Rams do have comes through their defence where they have the leader for sacks in Aaron Donald and arguably the best corner in football in Jalen Ramsey but as we saw last week they can struggle to stop the run and the short passes which can be used to negate the threat of Donald. Where they really need to get up to speed is in the offense where Jared Goff needs to stand up and be the player he can be.

Chicago Bears
This has been a strange season for the Chicago Bears. A team that are 5-1 you would think that everything is rosy in the garden but when you think figure that they changed their quarterback when they were 3-0 you get the impression that they are not happy just with winning and they want to set a culture of dominating on both sides of the ball. That hasn’t really happened under Nick Foles but there is a strong feeling that the better prospects longer term lies with him.
Chicago have their own defensive lynchpin in Khalil Mack and a couple of very good offensive weapons but there is no doubt that there is plenty of improvement still to come from the Bears on the attacking side of the ball. You would think that will come naturally as Foles gets used to what he has at his disposal and if it does come along then with the quality the Bears have on defence they are entitled to be sleepers for a Super Bowl spot.
Betting
We are probably going to find out an awful lot more about these two teams over the course of the four quarters of play here but my gut feeling is that the Los Angeles Rams might be a touch overrated on their efforts so far and that the Chicago Bears are going to at least challenge them here if not actually have enough about them to get over the line. Whoever comes out on top I certainly don’t see this one being a blowout. They look a little too evenly matched for that.
I’m a little surprised that the point spread is 6.5 here. If you look at the straight out form of the two sides then the Bears have the edge, not just because they have won an extra match but they have beaten better sides. They have also got over the line in some tight matches which is always the sign of a good side. It might be that the Rams do edge this but I’m much less convinced they win this by a touchdown or more.
