The Sunday Night Football this week was meant to be the match between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers but it has been flexed out with the vital game between the New York Giants and the Cleveland Browns coming in to replace it.
Both these sides are looking to extend their season by making it through to the play-offs but defeat for either would severely impact those hopes so we are set for an extremely competitive and possibly tense tussle here.
New York Giants
The New York Giants go into this match in second place in the NFC East and despite only having a 5-8 record, if the Washington Football Team lose to the Seattle Seahawks, the Giants will go level with them at 6-8 if they can pick up a win here. They will be looking to respond to seeing a four match winning run come to an end last week when they went down tamely to the Arizona Cardinals, although that is far from a terrible result to be fair to them.
If they are going to firstly win this match and then push on and attempt to overhaul the Washington outfit then their offense is going to need to step up to the plate. To be fair, prior to last week there were signs that Daniel Jones was just starting to build something but he is missing this week with Colt McCoy starting. Generally the New York Giants defence stands up and helps out their flailing offense but that side of the ball is missing a couple of big players too.

Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns saw their hopes of the AFC North title disappear last week but they are still firmly on course for a wildcard spot. They might still be wondering how they lost that match on Monday night having put 42 points on the board. The one time they needed their defence to be counted it didn’t show up to be and ultimately they fell to a defeat. It will be interesting to see how they respond to that disappointment.
The Browns’ defence could be a bit of an issue when the postseason does come along, assuming they don’t completely fall away from here on in and end up missing out on a place in the play-offs, but for now their offense looks in fantastic form having put up more than 40pts in each of their last two matches and if they continue to pile the points on the board here then scoreboard pressure will be a friend to their defence.
Betting
The New York Giants did brilliantly well to put a four game winning streak together but if we take out the Seattle Seahawks they didn’t beat anyone with a winning record in that run. I always say you can never criticise a team for winning but it does highlight that the schedule was soft so we need to bear that in mind. Their problem for a while has been their offense with key injuries hampering them and that remains the case here which is a worry.
I’m going to back the Cleveland Browns to cover a 6.5pt handicap in this one. I can’t ignore their leaky defence being a concern but their offense is incredibly potent, both through the air and on the ground, and if they can get in front and build some scoreboard pressure that will act as another man for the Browns defence. Cleveland can run up the score in a big fashion so with the injuries that the Giants have, covering 6.5pts should be well within their capabilities.
