NFL 2020 – New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tips and Betting Preview

The Sunday Night Football this week comes from Florida as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host their NFC South rivals New Orleans Saints in a match which could go a long way to determining just who will win the division this season.

Top spot in the division is on the line in this match and with the Buccaneers already leading the way they can take a giant leap towards topping the table if they can come away with the victory here. It isn’t must win for the Saints yet because they won the first meeting between these two this season but victory would certainly have them in the box seat.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Since that loss to the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome earlier in the year, the Buccaneers have won 6-1 for their season. In the main they have improved all the time in that spell too although they laboured to victory over the New York Giants last time out. You have to allow them one indifferent performance but they won’t be able to play like that here and get away with it so it will be interesting to see if they can find an improvement for this match.

I don’t think they are fully there yet but the Tampa Bay offense is getting better all the time and with Antonio Brown expected to get a few snaps in this match that is only likely to continue. They have a defence that is beginning to get up to speed as well so the Bucs are certainly trending in the right direction even if they are not quite there yet. A win here would put them two games clear in the race for the NFC South title so this is big.

New Orleans Saints

It is fair to say that we haven’t seen the best of the New Orleans Saints since the opening week of the season although in Alvin Kamara they do have the leading rusher in the league. There are a couple of reasons why they’ve not been at their best and he is the leading rusher but the main one would be that the Saints have been without their standout receiver Michael Thomas, who provides a deep threat to keep defences honest, as well as being a very good receiver.

The Saints come into this match having won four on the trot but they have needed overtime to win two of them. They have all been close but that isn’t necessarily a negative. Winning close games gives a team confidence when they are in those tight battles. Where the concern does come is that their defence isn’t performing as brilliantly as it could be doing. That puts pressure on the offense but so far they are handling that ok.

Betting

We have two of the best quarterbacks to play the game against each other here and not only that but they both have an abundance of weapons on the offense so I’m expecting plenty of points to be scored in this one. Given what we’ve seen this season the point line is a little on the low side at 50.5 and while a lot of that is down to the reputation of this improved Bucs defence, it shouldn’t be forgotten that an offensively shy New York Giants put 23 points up on them.

Albeit it was indoors, when these two met at the Superdome earlier in the season there were 57 points on that occasion and the Tampa Bay offense was playing alongside Tom Brady for the first time then and looked rusty. It no longer looks like that and with Antonio Brown in their ranks now you’d have to think they will look stronger than ever here. That makes me think we could get something of a shootout here so I’m happy to be on over 50.5.
