Big Matches

The Supporters’ Shield is on the line in the Eastern Conference where the current table toppers Philadelphia Union know that if they beat the New England Revolution they will secure it but if they slip up then Toronto FC can land it if they can find a win away to the New York Red Bulls. Top spot in the Western Conference is up for grabs on Sunday evening too and it will go the way of the Portland Timbers if they can win against Los Angeles FC. If they fail to win then Sporting Kansas City can snatch the number one seed from them if they win at Real Salt Lake.

Best of the Rest

Five teams are playing for the final two spots in the postseason in the Eastern Conference. Montreal Impact and Chicago Fire have their destiny in their own hands. If Montreal win at DC United and the Fire beat New York City FC they are both into the play-offs. Defeats for either would open the door to Atlanta United, Inter Miami and DC United respectively although DC will need a lot of results to go their way if they are going to make it. Over in the West, FC Dallas will be looking for the win to secure a home first round match in the play-offs but if they lost to Minnesota United the door will be open for the Loons to burst through.

Betting

It isn’t a night I have a whole lot of fancies for but the many permutations and teams needing something at least offers up a number of matches that should be competitive so the night should be a dramatic one to watch even if there isn’t a whole lot of betting interest in it. The one bet I like comes from the Western Conference where both teams are playing for something when Minnesota United host FC Dallas.

Both teams know whoever wins this match will host a postseason match and given the home form of these two teams that is something significant so both teams will be giving this their all. FC Dallas are surging at the line having won three on the spin but they have had a soft schedule for those matches. Minnesota United aren’t exactly in terrible form though having not lost any of their last seven matches. I’m never as comfortable on FC Dallas on the road as I am on them at home and that gives Minnesota enough of an edge to take this one in my eyes.
