NFL 2021 – Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs Tips and Betting Preview

The Sunday Night Football this week will see the top spot in the AFC West up for grabs when the Kansas City Chiefs play host to the Denver Broncos with the winners ending the week leading the way in one of the best divisions in the league.

The Chiefs begin the night on top of the pile and can open up a significant advantage with a win here but the Broncos will move to the summit almost unnoticed if they can find a way to get the better of the team which has been to the last two Super Bowls.

Kansas City Chiefs

It has taken a while but the Kansas City Chiefs have made their way to the top of the AFC West and having had their bye week before this match they should be even more prepared to deliver the goods within it. Kansas City went into their bye week having won their last four matches and while that run didn’t necessarily begin in impressive fashion, the longer it has gone on the more convincing they have looked which is encouraging.

The big sides and ones which are going to be relevant in January are ones which peak for the end of the season and that is what the Chiefs will be looking to do from here on in. Their defence has come to the party in recent weeks and while they are still not putting up the sort of points we are used to on offence, they are getting the job done. There is plenty more to come from Kansas City and having had two weeks to gear up for this match it might well come here.

Denver Broncos

If you had said to the Denver Broncos that after 11 matches they would have a 6-5 record for the season they would probably have taken that. They definitely would have taken it if you had told them that a win in game 12 would send them top of their division. Just five matches remain after this one so to have their destiny in their own hands moving into the final third of the campaign is something all teams dream of.

Denver started the season like a house on fire but fell off the rails until their last match. Injuries were a big reason for that though but steadily they are repairing the key parts of the team – notably the offensive line and receiving options – and it would be no surprise if they finish the season strongly. They are going to need their defence to stand up and be counted here but they have had good success restricting powerful offenses this term.

Betting

These divisional battles are always fascinating affairs and that is even more the case on primetime so I’m expecting an interesting match here. The immediate thing is that winning will be the overall incentive for both sides here rather than running up scores and putting markers down and things so with that in mind it might be that the Denver Broncos are in receipt of a huge amount on the spread. I don’t feel particularly easy going against the Kansas City Chiefs at home though.

Instead I’ll take the under. The line looks a little high at 47.5 anyway when you consider that the Denver Broncos are very good at making teams play in front of them on defence. To be fair to the Chiefs, they have been quite patient in taking what they are given this term and if that trend continues that will certainly help the low scoring. On the other side of that, Kansas City have only conceded 53 points in their last four matches so their defence should be able to keep the Broncos offense shackled. Three of the last four meetings between these two have gone under this line and I’m happy to expect this one to as well.
