The second part of the NFL 2021 Playoffs double header on Sunday night will see the NFC champions crowned when the Los Angeles Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers in an all-NFC West clash to determine the NFC representative at Super Bowl LVI.
The Rams have gone all in to make the Super Bowl this season because it is at their home stadium and they are one win away from reaching the big dance. Standing in their way are their rivals San Francisco 49ers who are looking for a second Super Bowl appearance in three years.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams had to go on the road last week to secure their place at this NFC Championship game. They took care of the defending champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers and can now return home for as long as their season stays alive for. That win, as the one over the Arizona Cardinals in the opening week of the playoffs, showed that LA can raise their game for the big occasion and they will need all of that character here.
The good thing about this Rams side is they can win matches on offense with some stellar playmakers, particularly in the passing game, and they can also win matches on their defence where their pass rush is about as strong as has ever been seen in the game. They have been guilty of beating themselves at times this season but the longer the campaign has gone on the less likely that has looked to happen.

San Francisco 49ers
The playoff campaign for the San Francisco 49ers has been a road one and they have taken care of two of the better offenses in the league in Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. They won the first of those two games with their running game just too strong and then last week at Lambeau Field it was a more attritional affair but they held their nerve when it mattered to set up a trip to their NFC West rivals in this match.
San Francisco 49ers will take confidence from those wins but they might also take plenty of belief from the fact they have already beaten the Los Angeles Rams in what was a do or die match. They did that in the final regular season game when they came from a mile back to win just to take their place in the playoffs. San Francisco have been looming large as Super Bowl dangers for a while and if they can contain the Rams they’ll get the chance to show why.
Betting
I think we will get a tight match here. Divisional matches usually are tight and given how well these two teams know each other and what is at stake in this contest it stands to reason that there won’t be a huge amount between the two sides when all is said and done. Anyone who has followed our NFL bets all season will already be on the Los Angeles Rams at 7/1 here as we took them to win the Super Bowl before the campaign started and obviously a win here secures the place money.
I’m happy to let that bet ride but the one market which catches my eye in this match is over 3.5 field goals made. I think both defences will defend their line with everything they have got. The Rams might struggle to score in the red zone with the San Francisco defence very tight on their goal line while the Rams have the defensive stars to ensure they keep the 49ers to field goals rather than give up the huge plays. Over 3.5 field goals has every chance of landing here as long as the kickers don’t have off nights.
