Another busy day in the NFL 2022 season concludes with the Sunday Night Football, which this week comes from the NFC East as the Philadelphia Eagles put their undefeated record on the line when they host the Dallas Cowboys.
These two don’t like each other so we was always guaranteed a competitive match whenever they meet but when you consider top spot in the NFC East is on the line we should be treated to an even better encounter.
Philadelphia Eagles
I would imagine even the most ardent Philadelphia Eagles fan would have expected them to be 5-0 for the season after their opening five games but that is the position they find themselves in. You could give a good argument questioning what they have beaten in those matches if you wish but you can only beat what is in front of you and after a tight win over the Detroit Lions in the opening week of the campaign, they have won their other four relatively comfortably.
This will probably be their toughest test and if they come through this and make it 6-0 for the season then a lot more people will be taking them seriously. If you want to prosper in the NFL these days you need a mobile quarterback and the Eagles have that in Jalen Hurts. They have given him more weapons in the passing game and their running game rivals most in the league. The Eagles defence have come out to play too. No team has put up more than 21 on them since the opening week.

Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys lost their opening match of the season at the former champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers but despite being without their starting quarterback Dak Prescott since then they have won all the games they have played. Cooper Rush has been a more than adequate replacement for Prescott and he’ll be looking to lead the Cowboys to the top of the NFC East division with a victory on enemy territory.
No team has scored more than 17 points against this Dallas defence this season. That defence is led by Micah Parsons who is having another tremendous campaign but it certainly isn’t all about him, others have contributed as well. You could argue that we haven’t seen the potency we would like from the Cowboys offensively but injuries have played a big part in that. It isn’t just Prescott who has been injured. Some receivers have missed time too.
Betting
The point line for this one is hovering around the 42-43 mark and I think that could be a little on the high side for two teams who can cause trouble with their defence and whose offense have a few issues at the minute. Obviously Dallas are missing their star quarterback and while Cooper Rush has done admirably for them in his absence, they have put a lot of emphasis on the run game which is taking time off the clock and keeping Dallas in matches.
This is a big test for Jalen Hurts. So far in his NFL career his numbers drastically decrease when he is put under pressure and there aren’t many defensive backs better at pressurising the quarterback than Micah Parsons right now. That means Philly might use their run game even more here too and in a battle which means so much in the overall context of the division we can be certain the defences are going to play tough here. We’ve seen a number of low scoring primetime games in the last few weeks and this could well be another one. The four wins for Dallas have all gone under this line and three of the last four Eagles ones have. Under for me.
