NFL 2022 – Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers Tips and Betting Preview

Another absolutely bonkers week of action in the NFL 2022 season concludes with the Monday Night Football, which sees the Green Bay Packers hosting the Los Angeles Rams in a match which would have expected to be much more important when it was selected than it actually is.

The Rams know their title defence won’t be extending into the postseason and it is likely that the Packers will be watching on when the prizes are played for, although if they win out they might yet snatch a wildcard spot.

Green Bay Packers

I don’t think anyone really saw this season coming for the Green Bay Packers although there was probably going to be a drop off once Davante Adams was allowed to leave the team. Even then there was always a sense that they would be fine with Aaron Rodgers but his season has never really got going and the Packers’ record of 5-8 for the year is very much reflective of the way their elite quarterback has been playing for most of it.

That has left Green Bay having to win their last four matches and then hope that is enough for them to make it into the playoffs with a wildcard. The positive for the Packers is that they have just had the bye week to take stock of where they are and come up with plans for the remaining four matches. The other positive is as the weather gets colder at Lambeau Field the better their chances of being more than competitive are. Their defence needs to come to the party now.

Los Angeles Rams

If it isn’t the season anyone saw coming for the Green Bay Packers, you can double down on that sentiment for the Los Angeles Rams who are going to go from being the champions to a first losing campaign under head coach Sean McVay. This has been a season riddled by injuries but it was a campaign which was going nowhere before they started to strike to the magnitude they have in the last few weeks so they can’t really use that as an excuse.

The offense has been a real issue for the Rams. Matthew Stafford has been nowhere near the quarterback he was last season even before he was put on IR. The Rams are now on their third quarterback in Baker Mayfield but he is very much down to a second string support cast and with one or two key defensive players missing as well it is no surprise that the Rams make the trip 4-9 for the year. One of those wins was against the Raiders last time out though.

Betting

We haven’t seen much of the best of Aaron Rodgers this season but I fancy this is the stage where we might see it. The calls for Jordan Love to play out the remainder of the campaign to see what he is made of is getting ever louder on the terraces at Lambeau Field but Rodgers is not ready to give up the starting berth just yet. If he is going to keep his spot as the season winds down he is going to have to produce big performances and deliver the goods.

One thing Rodgers has never had an issue with is performing on primetime. The bigger the lights generally the better the show he provides and against a beaten and bashed up Rams side who are out of their comfort zone he has the perfect dance partner to impress with. I still fancy the Packers to continue their intent to run the ball so Rodgers’ impact here might have to come in the form of passing touchdowns as the Rams’ red zone defence repels AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones. Rodgers is building a good relationship with Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs is expected to be back here too so as well as the running backs Rodgers has a number of options to complete a couple of touchdown passes to. I like the over 1.5 passing touchdowns for the Green Bay trigger man.
