NFL 2022 – San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks Tips and Betting Preview

We have reached the final month of the NFL 2022 regular season with Week 15 beginning with a showdown in the NFC West as the leaders San Francisco 49ers head to the Seattle Seahawks in a compelling Thursday Night Football.

The 49ers head to Seattle knowing that if they win they will wrap up the NFC West and it would leave the Seahawks having to battle for a wildcard spot just to make it into the postseason. A Seattle win opens things up again.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks looked like they were going to be in control of their own destiny a few weeks ago when they were 6-3 for the campaign and nicely ahead in the race for the NFC West. They have only won one of their last four matches though and now go into this one probably needing to win out in order to have any chance of winning the NFC West. A win here would share the series with San Francisco which would help matters.

If they are going to win this match then Geno Smith and the Seattle offense are going to need to be at their very best. They go up against the best defence in football which just isn’t conceding points at the minute. If their offense can’t punch any holes in the 49ers defence then Seattle will need their own defence to stand up and be counted and that means stopping the run which San Francisco have utilised brilliantly in recent weeks.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers head to Seattle as the hottest side in the NFL right now having won their last six matches. What has been eye catching about that run is that they have had to use two different quarterbacks with Jimmy Garoppolo going down a couple of weeks ago. They might need to use a third here because replacement Brock Purdy picked up an injury in the win over Tampa Bay last week and is only rated questionable here.

The 49ers will have to win this match without Deebo Samuel as he has picked up an ankle injury and he will be out of this match. The obvious positive for the 49ers considering that they are on the road here is that they were able to take it easy in the second half on Sunday when they led 35-0 so they won’t have needed the full week of recovery. If this 49ers defence continues to deliver the goods then they should be able to run their way to victory here.

Betting

I like San Francisco 49ers to win the match but I’m always wary of a team who are desperate to win, maybe not to keep their season alive but certainly to keep their hopes of winning the NFC West intact. I’m also never a fan of backing the road team on a Thursday night and especially one which is just picking up one or two too many injuries for comfort. It isn’t as though the Seattle Seahawks don’t possess a threat either.

If San Francisco are going to win this match then you would imagine they will ride Christian McCaffrey in both the running game and the receiving game until the Seattle Seahawks prove they can shut him down. Their record against running backs this season leaves a lot to be desired so there is no guarantee Seattle will shut him down and on a road trip on a short week San Francisco will look to manage the clock at every opportunity. He has a rushing and receiving yards line of 121.5 yards which he has covered in both matches since Garoppolo went down. I expect him to make it a hat trick here.
