The second part of the double header in the NFL 2023 season on Monday comes from Ohio where the much fancied Cincinnati Bengals playing host to the Los Angeles Rams in what feels like a key match for both sides.
The Bengals are perennial slow starters and nothing has changed in that regard this time around. The Rams appeared to be a work in progress heading into the season and that is how it is looking on the field too.
Cincinnati Bengals
This isn’t the first time that the Cincinnati Bengals have gone 0-2 for their opening two matches in the season so they will be playing in familiar territory but the playoffs start to become more of a pipedream for any side who start 0-3 for a campaign so the pressure is on Cincinnati to step up to the plate and start throwing some strikes here else they will be fighting from behind pretty much before their season has got started.
The passing offense of the Bengals has been the big problem so far this season. It hasn’t got going at all but there is no doubting that it has the personnel to fire but Joe Burrow hasn’t really got started yet. There should be plenty in them but the longer it doesn’t fire the more pressure there is on the likes of Joe Mixon and the Bengals defence, which to be fair has kept their two opponents to a manageable score were their offense to show up.

Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams haven’t really been the same side since they won the Super Bowl. That isn’t necessarily anything new. In a salary cap sport where the draft system is the way it is the champions often do reach the top of the mountain and then fall down it very quickly again. The key for the Rams this season is to ensure they start climbing again and have the tools in place to make their way towards the top again in the years to come.
They still have a very good quarterback in Matt Stafford, who might not be quite as elite as he once was and doesn’t have the weapons that he did when he arrived in Hollywood but he is still capable of leading this side to competitive showings if nothing else. The problem for the Rams has been getting to the opposing quarterback so far. To be fair, they defended the San Francisco 49ers pretty well last week and get to go up against a low on confidence offense here.
Betting
This feels like a bit of a trappy match to be fair. The Cincinnati Bengals have the profile to improve massively but you’d like to see the hard evidence of it happening before backing them at odds on but at the same time if that improvement does come then you would imagine they will have too much for an improving but at the same time still fairly limited Los Angeles Rams side, who probably aren’t really the price I’d want them to be on the road.
I will head to the side markets for a bet on the game where the odds against on Kyren Williams to score a touchdown looks a little on the high side for a running back who has got the starting job now. He has scored twice in both matches for the Rams this season and Cincinnati have coughed up a touchdown to running backs from both teams they have played this season, including the backup back of Baltimore last week. Williams looks a decent price at 21/20.
