NFL 2023 – Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys Tips and Betting Preview

Another Sunday in the NFL 2023 season ends with the Sunday Night Football, which this week comes from the NFC East where the route to the title is in the spotlight when the Dallas Cowboys welcome their rivals Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles lead the way in the division with a 10-2 record for the year but the Cowboys are 9-3 and will move level with the leaders with a win here. Should the Cowboys lose though they would go 2.5 games behind Philadelphia with just four matches left and would be staring a wildcard berth in the face.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are having a very good season with a 9-3 record but one of the three losses on their ledger was to the Philadelphia Eagles which makes this one a much bigger match for them than it might well be for their opponents. The positive for the Cowboys is that they played the Thursday night match last week so they have had the extra few days to recover and get themselves prepared for what is a must win match if they harbour hopes of winning the division.

The Cowboys go into this one off the back of four straight wins and in that period they have run up 168 points so their offense is doing the business. One area of concern would have been how easily Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks passing game got the better of Dallas last week and with the weapons opposing them here that is something Dallas will need to address. They will be strongly hoping that Micah Parsons is fit to play after suffering illness earlier in the week.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are having an even better season than the Dallas Cowboys and they are currently in possession of the number one seed in the NFC which would mean that they get the week off between the end of the regular season and them entering the playoffs. It would also mean that they would be at home right up until the Super Bowl, which for a side as comfortable at home as they are feels like it would be significant.

The incredible thing about this Eagles run has been that even though they are 10-2, which was 10-1 prior to a bit of a beat down by the San Francisco 49ers last week, is that statistically their pass defence is one of the worst in the league. There are caveats to that of course, such as them leading most weeks and teams having to pass on them. The positive for the Eagles is that despite their defence coughing up yards their offense has still got them on top most of the time.

Betting

My gut feeling is that the Dallas Cowboys will come out on top in this match. The extra few days they have had to recover and prepare for this match feels significant, especially after Philadelphia Eagles had a bruising encounter with the San Francisco 49ers last week which might have needed some time to recover from but I’m not so keen on Dallas giving up more than a field goal in a match where just winning is the overall aim so I’ll head to the player props for a bet in this one.

The bet I like is for CeeDee Lamb to go over 90.5 receiving yards in the match. Even if Dallas do win as I expect them to, I don’t see this being a blowout in any way so Lamb is going to be a factor throughout the match. Even if it is a blowout the chances are he’ll have done some damage against this weak Philadelphia pass defence. In the reverse meeting a few weeks ago he caught 11 passes for 191 yards and basically went off all night. With Philadelphia likely to stop the Dallas run game I expect Prescott to be targeting Lamb a lot and he can go past this total for a sixth time in eight games.
