NFL 2023 – Week 2 Sunday Early Games Tips and Betting Preview

The second week of the NFL 2023 season began in entertaining fashion on Thursday night and it continues on Sunday when the majority of the matches in the schedule take place in the early two kick off slots.

As ever on a Sunday those of us in the UK have plenty of ways of keeping up with everything with two live games on TV to enjoy in full, the RedZone coverage also on TV and certain bookmakers have the non-live games.

1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)

Eight matches take place in the first of the two Sunday early kick off slots with the TV encounter seeing the champions Kansas City Chiefs on show when they head to the Jacksonville Jaguars looking to bounce back from that surprise opening night loss to the Detroit Lions. We also have two matches between teams from the same division in this time slot. The first of those sees the Cincinnati Bengals looking for a huge improvement from their loss to the Cleveland Browns when they host the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North, while in the AFC South the Houston Texans host the Indianapolis Colts.

That leaves us with five other matches over the course of the earlier games with all eyes on the Detroit Lions who will be looking to back up that win over the Kansas City Chiefs when they host the Seattle Seahawks. Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers had some questions to answer going into the season and they meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium while the Buffalo Bills will be looking to respond to their loss to the New York Jets when they host the Las Vegas Raiders. The other two matches see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosting the Chicago Bears and the Los Angeles Chargers travelling to the Tennessee Titans.

4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)

Four matches round off the Sunday early games in the later of the two slots and those of us in the UK will have the chance to watch two winners from the opening week colliding when the Dallas Cowboys host the New York Jets who are still coming to terms with the season ending injury to Aaron Rodgers after all the hype around them. There is also a divisional battle between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West.

The other two matches could well go under the radar with the four sides involved not expected to be anything special this season. In one of them the Arizona Cardinals welcome a New York Giants side who have a bit to prove after their heavy beating by the Dallas Cowboys in the Sunday Night Football last week. The Denver Broncos will welcome the Washington Commanders to Colorado in the other match.

Betting

The Detroit Lions looked really good on the opening night of the season. It is easy to focus on the Kansas City Chiefs and their struggles without Travis Kelce but that would be doing the Lions a disservice. Aidan Hutchinson already looks a stud in the Lions’ pass rush and he gets to go at a bashed up Seattle Seahawks offensive line here which could create some carnage. The other thing I liked about the Lions in the win in Kansas City was the better balance about their offense.

They ran the ball extremely well, and I expect that part of their game to only improve as the season goes on, and they did what they needed to in the passing game. Seattle head to Motown off the back of a weak defeat to the Los Angeles Rams last week and unless there is some Geno magic here you do feel for the visitors in this match. Seattle have won two recent meetings with Detroit but in those matches the Lions put up 29 and 45 points. If their offense is anything like in that region in terms of points here I expect their upgraded defence to see them to a fairly comfortable victory.
