NFL 2024 – Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets Tips and Betting Preview

Just under 24 hours after the Sunday Night Football concluded at the MetLife Stadium, the Monday Night Football will kick off there as the NFL 2024 season continues with an AFC East clash between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills.

I think it is fair to say that neither of these teams have started the season quite as strongly as they would have wanted but top spot in the AFC East is on the line in this one so that should further add to the competitiveness of it.

New York Jets

If we needed confirmation that the New York Jets haven’t made the start to the season that they would have wanted we got it when Robert Saleh was relieved of his duties last week after the Jets were soundly beaten by the Minnesota Vikings in London. Nothing went right for the Jets in that match but in truth even though they went to England with a 2-2 record, their offense has been flattering to deceive and has been underwhelming at best when you consider the quarterback and the weapons available to him.

The Jets have a couple of wins on their ledger but they have been against the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, both of whom have just one win each to their name so they are nothing to write home about. The big concern for the Jets would be that in the three games they have been beaten in they have scored just 19, nine and 17 points. They need more output from their offense even if it is only to give their defence enough time to rest and in Aaron Rodgers they have the man to deliver it.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills were looking like they were going to take complete control of the AFC East at the beginning of the season when they won their opening three matches, piling up the points in them and generally looking like nothing had changed even though they lost some key players in the off season. They have lost their last two though and left the door open for the Jets in particular to come along and knock them off the top spot.

There isn’t anything too drastic to worry about for the Bills. They have lost to the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans who might be two of the best teams in the AFC this season and only went down in Houston last week by a field goal. In terms of form at least this is an easier match than either of those two and so Buffalo will be looking to get back to winning ways. Josh Allen will need to be at his best against this Jets defence if Buffalo are going to pick up a road win.

Betting

Breece Hall probably hasn’t had the start to the season that he would have wanted and certainly that the New York Jets would have been looking for but with the change in coaching in the Big Apple and someone else calling the plays and a potential for stripping it all back and returning to the basics I will chance Hall to cover his rushing yards line against a team who are getting gashed up the middle at the minute and remain with a soft centre with all the injuries.

He has a rushing yards line of 58.5 which he has covered just once this season but when you look at the defences he has featured against – San Francisco, Tennessee, New England, Denver and Minnesota, he was probably only going to cover in the game against Tennessee and maybe New England. He did cover versus the Titans and rushed for 54 yards against the Patriots. He now faces another weak rush defence. The Jets are set up to run block and with Aaron Rodgers not looking like himself yet there is no reason for the Jets to abandon the run. There is a seriously elite rushing back in Hall and I’ll pay to see if the change in coach can bring the best out of him. If it can Hall should be good to go way beyond 60 yards against a defence he ran for 127 yards in just 10 carries against in this fixture last season.
