NFL 2024 – Philadelphia Eagles @ Green Bay Packers Tips and Betting Preview

The new NFL 2024 season continues on Friday night when the league heads into Brazil for the first time as the Green Bay Packers take a home match to Sao Paulo when they host the Philadelphia Eagles for a clash between two of the best in the NFC.

These two teams both made the playoffs last season and that will be their primary aim this time around as well. This is a chance for both to put something of a marker down for the remainder of the campaign. Brazil should be treated to a cracker.

Green Bay Packers

It will be interesting to see how the Green Bay Packers go this season. Last term you felt they were playing with a bit of freedom and a rare lack of expectation on their shoulders as they were seen to be in a transition period after the departure of Aaron Rodgers. Having made the postseason, there is no riding under the radar this time around and that different dynamic can often find teams out. This is an immediate chance for Green Bay to show that isn’t the case for them.

The immediate eyes will be on Jordan Love to see if he can deliver the goods now that teams have more tape on him. The Packers are going to have a decent run game which will always help them if teams have clocked Love but the interesting thing will be to see how this revamped Packers defence go. They are going to be tested right out of the traps and if they can cope with this opposing offense it will give them a lot of confidence moving forward.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles were the best team in the NFL for the opening three months of last season but out of nowhere they started to lose their way and in the end of the campaign ended dismally so even though the roster looks equipped to be major contenders over the course of this year, they head to Brazil with something to prove both to themselves that they can maintain a good start and to everyone else that they have put that poor finish to last season behind them.

The Eagles have a really powerful offense, one which the addition of Saquon Barkley is going to do nothing to lessen, but they can get involved in some daft shootouts at times which they often come out on the wrong side of. That defence is likely to be tested straight away here but if this team need a profile and a stage to come out and perform on and show everyone that they have pit last season behind them an international game in a new country is certainly it.

Betting

I am tempted to take Green Bay Packers to win this match because I think they have one or two less questions to answer than the Philadelphia Eagles but you have to look at the depth that they have on offense and there really isn’t a need to take it on in a match where growing the game is a huge part of the reason we are in Brazil and as such the emphasis will be on the offenses to go out and make plays and showcase the sport in an entertaining light.

Green Bay look a good side but their defence might need a couple of weeks just to gel under a new defensive coordinator and that is something that Philadelphia can take advantage of, even if I am a little nervous for them in the absence of the now retired Jason Kelce. The one thing of a bigger concern though is the Philly defence and while Vic Fangio will probably improve it in time, it might take more than the off season to get that sorted. That makes me think we might get something resembling a week one shootout here so the over 48.5 points will do for me.
