NFL: Monday Night Football – Houston Texans at Denver Broncos Betting Preview

The last match of week seven of the NFL season comes from Mile High Stadium as the Denver Broncos host the Houston Texans in a battle of two sides who have 4-2 records for the season heading into the Monday Night Football.

Both sides have the chance to strengthen their claims for their respective division titles in the AFC with a win in this match and of course the match sees the return to Denver for Brock Osweiler so there are plenty of storylines in play.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos started the season off like a house on fire as they try to defend the Super Bowl title but the injury to Trevor Siemian seemed to throw everything out of sync and then they suffered a surprise defeat to San Diego in the Thursday night game last week. Siemian is back now though and they’ve had the benefit of the long week to get everything back into line again.

The Broncos need to find themselves on offense again and part of doing that is to establish the run. That shouldn’t be as much of a problem as in previous weeks here as they face the 28th ranked defence who allowed Frank Gore for more than 100 yards on the ground last week. The Broncos also have their coach Gary Kubiak back this week.

Houston Texans

The Texans arrive for the Monday Night Football off the back of an overtime win in the Sunday night game last week against the Indianapolis Colts. Osweiler and his offense held their nerve in that game and made the big plays when they needed to but they will need to raise their level again to get any joy out of this outstanding Denver defence.

Houston will need to make sure their own defence stands up to the scrutiny it will face but with the injuries they have in that area of the roster that will be easier said than done. Activating a challenging pass rush in the absence of JJ Watt is arguably their biggest task in this match.

Betting

I thought about going with the rushing yards of CJ Anderson in this match on a line which is quite low but he is really struggling to break tackles at the minute and it might be that Devontae Booker gets more snaps than we expect before the match is out so that has forced me to look elsewhere.

I’m going to put my faith in this Denver defence and take the Denver Broncos to cover a 7.5pt start. We can allow Denver their two defeats. Their first loss came against the form horses Atlanta Falcons when their quarterback was injured during the game and the second loss in San Diego was on a short week when Siemian was still out and the coach wasn’t fit to run the team.

Those issues are behind them now. Siemian has shown up to be better than Osweiler statistically so far this season and with the Texans struggling against the run and this Denver defence going quarterback hunting I fancy Denver will get back to winning ways here with a fair sized margin of victory.
